HOW CAN I LOSE POINTS?

Formatting: (20%)

  • Do you have a title page with the title of your paper, your full name, class name and period, name of teacher, and date the paper is due? Times New Roman Font, Size 16? You may add a picture.
  • If the paper is not between 4 and 6 FULL pages. *Remember: if something costs $6.00, $5.75 is not enough!
  • Is the paper double spaced, Times New Roman Font, Size 12?
  • Are the margins acceptable? (1.0)
  • Are there extra spaces between paragraphs? (There should not be)
  • Is your last name in the upper right hand corner on all the pages of the paper EXCEPT the first page?
  • Is the page number in the upper right hand corner on all the pages of the paper EXCEPT the first page AND to the right of your last name?

Citations (part of Formatting & Works Cited page):

  • Did you footnote? (number at the end of the sentence with the citation at the bottom of the page?)
  • Are you using proper punctuation in your citations?
  • Are your book and magazine titles italicized?
  • Are your article titles in “quotations”?
  • Are your authors’ names in the proper order? (first then last)
  • Are you using Ibid in the correct way? (Remember, ibid refers to the citation directly above)
  • Are the entries single spaced?
  • There should not be any spaces between each entry.
  • Is the font Times New Roman, Size 10?
  • Are all your sources listed in the Works Cited page?

Works Cited Page (20%):

  • Do you have at least 5 sources listed?
  • Do you have at least one book and one article out of the 5 sources?
  • Did you cite all your sources in the paper?
  • Are your sources in alphabetical order by author’s last name or first word of the title if there is no author (disregard A, An, The)?
  • Is the second line of your entry indented one tab?
  • Are you using proper punctuation?
  • Are your book and magazine titles italicized?
  • Are your article titles in “quotations”?
  • Are your authors’ names in the proper order? (last, first)
  • Are the entries single spaced?
  • Is there ONE space between each entry?
  • Is the font Times New Roman, Size 12?
  • Are the words WORKS CITED centerized at the top of the page?

Content (60%):

  • Do you have a solid introduction paragraph?
  • Is your thesis statement(s) specific? *Remember to refer to the class example!
  • Is your paper in logical order?
  • Did you quote in your paper? (evidence)
  • Do you have a solid paper? (elaboration, conclusion, mechanics)
