CNY Monster’s Guidelines/Expectations 2017-2018

Player Expectations

  1. The player must conduct themselves as representatives of the team and organization at all times.
  2. Complete all school work and keep in good standing.
  3. The player will keep a positive attitude and play hard no matter what the score is.
  4. Learn to put differences aside and work cooperatively with all their teammates.
  5. Never, never talk negatively about another player/coach on the team. It is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. This can result in removal from the team.
  6. Treat parents, coaches, teammates, and umpires with respect. A warning will be issued if this happens and if it happens a second time you will be suspended and possibly removed from the team.
  7. Take care of all your equipment; it is your responsibility, not your parents.
  8. Become a student of the game.
  9. Run on and off the field at all times.
  10. Run out every hit, you never know what will happen.
  11. Listen to instruction, and watch teammates in front of them in drills to cut down on the same mistakes.
  12. Accept your role on the team, and in a particular game.
  13. Put the team before yourself.
  14. All practices, games, and team functions/activities are mandatory unless noted by the coaching staff.
  15. It is expected since this is a “true” competitive travel team that players put in time working on their skills outside of the scheduled practices.
  16. Stay in good physical shape.
  17. Players will understand there is no guarantee of playing time or particular fielding position.
  18. Have fun and keep safety in mind at all times.

Coaches Expectations

  1. Coach all players on the team, and make every girl a better softball player.
  2. Study the game of softball. Coaches should regularly communicate with other softball coaches, read books, watch softball, and go to softball clinics when possible.
  3. Prepare practice plans to enhance player development.
  4. Be open to new strategies and techniques.
  5. Create a fun, positive, safe, and competitive environment for the girls to grow in.
  6. Communicate schedules, game times, and other information to parents once it is received.
  7. Back-up players in games, but treat umpires with respect while doing this. Talking to an umpire is different than screaming and throwing equipment around.
  8. Treat players and parents with respect.
  9. Have complete focus on developing the girl’s skills and knowledge during practice and games.
  10. Set short and long term goals

Parent Expectations

  1. Keep a positive attitude. There will be frustrating times, but understand things are done to develop all the girls softball skills.
  2. Understand that this is a competitive travel team and not Little League.
  3. We do play to win. Playing time will never be equal in tournaments. League Nightgames are different, in these games instruction is the most important thing and everyone will play about the same.
  4. The coaches will not discuss playing time. If you want to know what they need to work on please ask 24 hours or more after a tournament game.
  5. There is no guarantee of playing a particular fielding position. The outfield is very important and one of the main components of determining the outcome of a game.
  6. Parents will not blame the outcome of a game or tournament on coaches or an individual player. Everybody makes plenty of mistakes, including coaches, a lot of situations and factors lead to the end result.
  7. The parents at all times must reflect well on the team and program.
  8. Get your child to all games and practices on time. The coaching staff will not tolerate low numbers at practices and then everyone showing up at every game. We strongly believe at this level practice is just as, or more important than the games. We would like at least a 2 day notice when your daughter is going to miss practice and a2- 3month notice when they will be missing a tournament. We understand things come up last second and kids get sick, but most of the time people know in advance and wait to the last second to communicate concerns. Practice plans and game plans are generally prepared at least 24 hours in advance of the event.
  9. Attendance will be taken for all mandatory events and practices.
  10. Please do not harass or scream at the umpires. If you have a real concern and the coaches have not addressed the issue with the umpire please tell a coach quietly so the problem can at least be brought to the umpire’s attention. There will be good and awful umpires, there is not really anything we can do about it.
  11. Never, never talk negatively about another player/coach on the team.It is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. This can result in removal from the team.
  12. Get sponsorship money. Remember this is our main fundraiser and the more we get the less we have to pay out of pocket. Besides improving softball skills, the other main goal was to keep it affordable. This will take everyone working together to keep costs down.
  13. Stay on your daughter about putting in time to improve their skills outside of practice. This is true for everyone, but especially pitchers.
  14. Make payments on time, if there is a problem see a coach privately and we can work something out. There is now a "no pay-no play" clause in our by-laws and it will be enforced. Each player is expected to pay equally and if this does not happen, your daughter will not play.
  15. Enjoy yourself, and take advantage of the quality time you will be spending with your child.
