DESCRIPTION OF COURSE AND OBJECTIVES: BCCC is a non-auditioned, performance-oriented choir with an emphasis on standard choral repertoire. A wide variety of musical styles will be prepared for performance on campus and in the surrounding community.

OUTCOMES:Competency:Knowledge of healthy vocal production and basic choral repertoire.

Measure:Level of class participation, quartet singing, and written paper.

Competency:Application of theoretical knowledge.

Measure:Performance by student in concerts and critical assessments of fellow students.

LENGTH: One semester, 32 hours of instruction, 1 credit hour.

TEXT: There is no required text for the course. However, students may be requested to purchase larger works as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS: Pencil!!! Purchase of a uniform may be required.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are allowed 3 absences from class during the semester. No excuse is needed for these absences. After that, any unexcused absence takes 10% off the student’s final grade with the following exception: Any student missing 6 classes for any reason will be asked to withdraw. NO Absence is excused the week before or of a performance. An excused absence is one where I have been contacted previously and approved it or a doctor’s excuse is provided. Lateness of any kind will take 5% off the student’s final grade. I will always endeavor to release class on time. Concert attendance is MANDATORY. Failure to participate will be an immediate failure for the semester.

ASSESSMENT METHODS: Attendance and participation are the primary factors in determining final grades. Since learning and performances are basic aspects of this course, it should be understood that daily attendance counts for a daily grade; attendance at outside rehearsals counts for quizzes; and performances count as tests. In addition, quartet singing may be employed to assess the level of preparation.

DISABILITYSTATEMENT:Students with a documented disability are strongly encouraged to speak with the instructor and with the professional staff at the CounselingCenter. The College offers many resources, but it is important to take advantage of them early. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the College and instructors of your needs.
