Principal's Message
T
he 2011-2012 school year is now complete. It has been an eventful and successful year for our students. We hope that the learning that has taken place has positioned our students well for the challenges ahead, be it at Lorne Park or elsewhere for our graduates. We congratulate students on their academic achievements. This year students writing the Ontario Secondary Schools Literacy Test achieved a 95 percent success rate which compares favourably with results from other secondary schools in Peel and around the province. In addition many of our students were able to achieve a high level of success in their courses this semester.
In addition to success in the classroom our students also demonstrated excellence in extra-curricular activities. Our athletic teams had great success and performers in our music and drama programs also put on excellent shows this semester. We look forward to continued success in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of staff who will be departing from LP at the end of this school year. We fondly say farewell to Ms. Bromley who retires from our English department, Mme. Libront who retires from our Moderns department and Mrs. Moorhouse who retires as our Office Manager. We thank each of them for many years of outstanding contributions to the Lorne Park school community and students.
As well we wish Ms. Swanson and Ms. Vasiliadis continued success as they pursue opportunities in other Peel schools in the fall.
We thank Mr. Haswell for his work as an LTO in careers this Semester, Mr. Siddiqui for his work in the Moderns department and Ms. Cranfield for her work in the Phys-ed department. You will all be missed.
For the start of the 2012-2013 school year we welcome back Ms. Hatzakis. We also welcome Ms. Matustik who joins us on an LTO in the Moderns department.
As always we look forward to welcoming our new Grade Nines to Lorne Park in the fall. There will be a Grade Nine student and parent orientation on Wed. Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.. We hope to see you there. For all other grades please check the registration times that are outlined later in this edition of the Spartan Speak.
I wish each of you an enjoyable and restful summer and look forward to seeing you here at Lorne Park for the 2012-2013 school year.

ANIMAL WELFARE CLUB
It has been a busy year for Animal Welfare Club; the newest club to hit LP. It takes a lot of effort to create a new club, but thanks to the dedication of Mr. Huang and the enthusiasm of the club members we’ve created quite the clan. Through zoo trips, poster making parties, pot lucks and duck-sitting sessions, it’s been a hoot! Have a great summer everyone, we can’t wait to see you all in September!
