Dear Eighth Grade Parents,

Students will participate in Human Growth and Development presentation during his or her connection classes, January 11 and 12, 2017. The presentation will be conducted by Cobb County Commission on Children and Youth. The objective of this presentation is to educate, equip and empower the students to avoid risky behavior to increase their chances of succeeding academically and in life. Cobb EMC has secured the funding for this program providing students with the best quality education in the area of critical life choices. The speakers will cover the following topics: 1) Emotions and Self Respect; 2) Alcohol and Decision Making;

3) STD/AIDS / HIV Transmission; 4) Consequences of Sexual Activity; 5) Methods of pregnancy and STD prevention with emphasis on abstinence; 6) Peer Pressure; and 7) Assertiveness Training.

Classes will be separated by gender and only Cobb County School District approved materials will be used. This program will help students avoid risky situations, make positive choices, ward off sexual advances and understand the benefits of remaining abstinent until marriage. We believe that parents and guardians are the primary resource for students in this area. We want to work with you in providing information on these vital subjects. Research shows that students do listen to parents in this most important area of their life. Once your son or daughter has completed the program, take the time to discuss what they have learned.

Students not attending classes in Human Growth and Development will be given related health topics for independent study. Students who repeatedly exhibit immature behavior will be removed from the Human Growth and Development unit.
