Personnel
D. Tyrell continued as the Acting Librarian with Maricela Rodriguez, Library Assistant, being the go-to person for the day-to-day operations.

Programs & Services
The Library Staff process eight passports during the month of July.
Summer Reading Program begin. Fizz Boom Read is the science base them this year. About a half dozen kids are participating and meeting weekly for various science projects.
Library use totaled 7,106 patrons who checked out 1,5675 items. Interlibrary loan requests were originated by patrons. As of the end of the month 7,949 active library borrowers (who had used their library cards within the last 60 Days) had been registered and 40 reference questions were answered.
Online with Libraries statistics are being maintained for the OWL project staff. There were 1,568 OWL computer sessions initiated and 3,594 library patrons exclusively used computer-based resources.
The library recorded eight hours of volunteer participation in public activity programming by two individuals.
Facility
Six different organizations reserved Library space for meetings.
Projects
The library staff began the process of retiring VHS tapes, audio cassettes and old books for library collections. The shelf space now available will be used to house both DVD and new books.
Revenues
The library deposited fines and fees totaling $727.35 for July, 2014. Friends of the library deposits totaled $240.00

Librarians Report- June, 2014
Staff
D. Tyrell McGirt, PCR Director, continued as the Acting Librarian. Maricela Rodriquez, Library Assistant, is the key staff and go-to person for day-to-day library operations. Library Assistant, Mayumi Conwell, was out on personal leave. Librarian candidate, Sherry Moores, visited Unalaska for a formal interview. Unfortunately things did not work out so the search continues for a Librarian.
Library Services
Library use in June, 2014, totaled 7,732 patrons who checked out 1,4786 items. Interlibrary loan requests were originated by patrons. As of the end of the month 7,882 active library borrowers (who had used their library cards within the last 60 days) had been registered and 40 reference questions had been answered.
Online with Libraries statistics are being maintained for the OWL project staff. A total of 2,782 OWL computer sessions were initiated and 7,672 library patrons exclusively used computer-based resources.

Programs
Two presentations were offered to the public. Aleutian kayakers, Sarah Outen and Justine Curgenven, from Great Britain presented on their Aleutian Island kayaking journey and trip around world. Dr. Nancy Sydnam visited the Unalaska Public Library for a reading and signing of her book Sideways Rain.
Projects
The library staff began the process of retiring VHS tapes and old books from library collections, 124 item were deleted.
Facility
The Conference Room and Alaskana Room was reserved and used by the following organizations – Aleutians Arts Council, Ballyhoo Lions Club, IFHS, PCR, and USAFV.
Accident Incidents
There were no major accidents or incidents however, Boris Galaktionoff, is suspended from all PCR facilities and parks for three months. He is allowed back at PCR on September 17, 2014.
Revenues
The library deposited fines and fees totaling $944.55 in June. Friends of the Library deposits totaled $ 262.50.

- Librarians Report – There were no major questions or comments on the Librarian Report. McGirt updated the committee on Library Assistant, AnnaMarieAmmons, last day and the timeline for her replacement.

A. Librarian Position Update – McGirt updated the committee on the timeline for
getting the next Librarian hired.
B. Banned Books Week – Crane mentioned that Banned Books Week is September
21st– 27th. There was some discussion around programming ideas for the national week recognition.
C. Assessment of City Services Booklet – Each committee member received the
City’s annual assessment of services. The Library’s explanation starts on page
30 of the booklet.

- Crane mentioned promoting more early reading / reading to babies. Thompson
added Preschool Prep Company is a good vendor from which to get supplies.
- Hazen asked about the Book Club. Anderson provided some information
about the club as she is an active member.
- Hason-Zueger suggested a couple programming ideas – Make-a-Book and
Favorite Word Dictionary.
- Crane will be out-of-town September 02nd to 12th
- Hanson-Zueger will be out-of-town in October – TBD
- Hazen will be out-of-town around the dates of November 11th to 20th – TBD
