About the project

Project Summary. Please describe your project (No more than 150 words):
The Homework Club is a small community group that is six years old. Which has over 20 young people attending; every Monday evening during school time.
(This group is part of the local charity the Family Development Project)
Homework club has a history of community engagement, offering services for the young people of the area.
This group has a pool of local adult volunteers who support the work, aims and young people - across both sites. (Library and Church of Christ Hall)
We offer:
- An open access group for young people 11+
- Bring together local young people from this diverse area – to enjoy, fun, friendship. Food in the form of a ‘family tea time’, eaten together with learning and education support.
- Split site offer – with computer*, library*, research support, leisure craft and games.

Training, employment and learning pathways – for both volunteers and young people. (First Aid, Food hygiene, Risk and CV writing)

Bring young people together form their area – supported we engage children from 9 Sheffield Secondary Schools.
Homework, Learning, Library and book resources – Computer skills
We worker to the safer community agenda, with an early intervention and prevention link. – Safe Communities, Stronger Communities and Community Cohesion as our young people represent to make up and diversity of the area. ‘We break down barriers’
Healthy options, food and lifestyle work addressing activities and links to other partners.

The Local Community
How many people will be involved in the project? What will they be doing?(Adult Volunteers = 9)
Young Helper Volunteers 16 – 18 years = 4
Young People – 11 – 16 = 20
(This will include children in year six – Transitions)
The young people are involved in:
- Consultation, evaluation and feedback
- Planning and delivery – of session, Menu for the following week.
- Set up/ Washing up / Cleaning / Tidy away
- Activities – Organised with them e.g. DVD production
- Eating and socialising together ( games and fitness)
The meal is served as a large family time where we all eat together with Hal-al and Vegetarian options too. The young people direct all activities.
On average 18 – 25 attend each week.

What are the key benefits?
Empowering and developing confidence, skills and ability challenge and seek and affect change. August 2011 – 6 young people returned as adult leaders.
Young helpers take on the role of supporting other activities – Family Week and Fundraising events e.g. Grand Fundraising Dinner.
Giving back and active citizens in their own community.
