Public is Invited to Participate in the 2016Fall‘Field Day’

atPresquile National Wildlife Refuge

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is pleased to announce an upcoming event scheduled for Saturday, September 24that Presquile National Wildlife Refuge. This Fallevent offersvisitors an opportunity to explorethe 1,329-acre island refuge and the native plants and animals it supports, as well as the sustainably designed educationfacilities of the James River Ecology School. In an effort to prevent long wait lines,pre-registration is required for all participants.

For those registered in advance, access will be provided to the island and its3 ½ miles of wildlife observation trail, boardwalks,interior creeksand select facilities. Visitors can meet FWS employees and environmental partners, view interpretive materials and displays within the MenenakDiscovery Center, and learn about the energy-efficient components of the James River Ecology School facilities. A bird walk, guided by a Richmond Audubon naturalist will begin at 7am. Other guided and self-guided tourswill be available throughout the day. Limited family-friendly programs and activities will be offered, including mid-daycanoeing. James River Association educators will offer programs for kids and highlightenvironmental educationprogramming opportunities with the Ecology School.

All prospective participants must call or e-mail between August 31st andSeptember 20thto secure a seat on the boat for a specific time. Space is limited. People can register for slots within 30 minute windows (as early as 7am-for bird walk and as late as 2:00pm). Participants are to gather at 4101 Bermuda Hundred Road in Chester, VA (Honeywell’s east parking lot). The event, parking, shuttle and boat transportation arefree. In preparation for your adventure, dress appropriately for the weather and bring your own snacks and drinking water.
