Job Summary
The Deputy Principal will improve standards through the effective development and use of policies and frameworks;ensuring that the educational needs of the studentsare met.
Key responsibilities
- To lead the College in external regulatory review processes including Ofsted.
- To empower and enable middle managers to lead their departments, staff and students effectively and efficiently; leading by example
- To lead the improvement of the quality of teaching, learning and assessmentto ensure that the educational needs of the students are met and measure the impact. Lead, manager and coordinate collective and individualised training and support plans to ensure the delivery and management of teaching is effective
- To drive improvements in planning learning and assessment, and demonstrating impacting improvement through robust quality assurance arrangements
- Ensure the management of information is effective and meets the requirements of funders, timetabling, learner target setting, tracking and monitoring.
- To support pre-entry applicants and their parents/carers to ensure pre-entry planning is robust and effective
- To lead and manage staff involved in educational delivery; to provide matrix management for Disability Support Services and Student Care and Wellbeing.
- To continue to evolve and develop the curriculum to ensure the college delivers an outstanding range of education and training opportunities to meet the needs of young people, employers and the regions needs
- To be responsible for evaluation, improvement and reporting using existing and developing quality assurance and self-assessment frameworks
- To be responsible for oversight of timetabling and student records, ensuring information is complete, reliable and compiled in a timely way for internal and external purposes
- To ensure that there is an appropriate programme of training and CPD to support the delivery of the educational provision
- To deputise for the Principal as required
The post-holder will:
- Have line management responsibility for middle managers in the day to day operational delivery of education in context of a specialist post-16 setting;
- Implement and monitor the impact of the teaching, learning and assessment strategy to drive the improvement of the quality of the student experience
- Effectively manage the pre-entry process, collecting perceptions of stakeholders to continually improve the pre-entry experience
- Support the development and delivery of new and improving products and services
- Contribute to the improvement of student support arrangements including learning, learner and care support arrangements are effective, and improved through a culture of self-reflective practice and continuous improvement
- Promote and embed an absolute student-centred approach to operational delivery, ensure target setting is highly individualised and linked to EHC Plans; ensure effective quality assurance of target setting, and progress monitoring through further developing links between TLA and MIS.
- Oversee and be accountable for all external accreditation used by the college, ensuring effective quality improvement processes through internal and external verification
- Develop, implement and drive quality improvements for the College RARPA framework.
- Promote effective safeguarding arrangements, ensure effective embedded delivery of English, maths, IT, E&D, British Values etc. at a level of learning appropriate to student need. Lead on the College Prevent Strategy and its implementation.
- Promote and facilitate the empowerment of students through the Student Council and ensure it is effective by supporting students to participate in decision making within College and about their own futures
- To work constructively and effectively as a senior leader and a member of the College management team and to drive forwards an impacting strategy for effective communication to support student achievement and the whole College vision and strategic plan.
- To effectively manage and monitor the performance of staff through HR policy and procedure
- Keep abreast of educational, sector and associated developments
- Implement an effective assessment framework for prospective students in conjunction with the College management team; ensuring educational needs and ability are clearly identified.
- Develop and deliver a coherent and timely timetable to meet the contractual needs and personalised curriculum of each student as agreed with funders.
- To ensure the quality of the programme of extra-curricular educational activities is delivered to residential students outside of classroom hours and adequate systems to record activity and monitor progress.
- To ensure work placements and employability skills are developed in line with students’ abilities and funder requirements.
- Create and maintain an effective partnership with parents/carers.
- Strengthen the College’s positive image in the wider community, ensuring a range of community-based learning experiences.
- Promote and continue to develop an inclusive and supportive approach so that the College is a place where all young people feel welcome.
- To lead, develop, implement, evaluate and improve the quality assurance and self-assessment framework: maintaining College policies, systems and procedures aligned with the Ofsted inspection framework and the expectations of funding bodies.
- Leading the preparation and co-ordination of OFSTED and local authority visits and inspections, offering support in the preparations for CQC inspections relation to residential services in College. Act as nominee for Ofsted and other regulatory inspections.
- Lead and manage the oversight of college annual staff development training plan, taking responsibility for the organisation of the college CPD offer including delivery where appropriate.
- Attend all Henshaws mandatory and compulsory training sessions, taking responsibility to ensure training is up to date at all times.
- Take responsibility for their own personal and professional development, including CPD where appropriate.
- Facilitate training and knowledge sharing across Henshaws Society, and other providers where appropriate.
- Offer a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of the organisation.
- Represent Henshaws in professional manner at all times, contributing to marketing and recruitment activities for Henshaws as required.
- The employee may on occasions be called upon to undertake work in other locations in order to ensure obligations to students, service users and third parties are fulfilled.
