Seeking Outdoor Enthusiasts!

Do you like to take hikes and spend time outdoors helping local charitable groups?

Then this is the TAG-IT for you! On day 1, help Habitat for Humanity build a house in West Dallas. (Note: Habitat requires you to be there before 8 am, and you must be at least 16.) On day 2, take a guided nature walk on a trail atDogwood Canyon Audubon Center in Cedar Hill. Wear comfortable jeans, t-shirt, and(required closed-toe) tennis shoes.

Oak Cliff: That's My Hood!

Take anarchitectural and cultural tour of the historical North Oak Cliff neighborhood near our school, an area that is changing very rapidly. Bring your walking shoes and some dinero for some culinary adventures. Visit the Texas Theater, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, Continental Avenue Bridge Park, and Trinity Groves. Vamonos! Max enrollment: 30

Emergency!

Have you ever wondered how to put out a burning plane or rescue someone who is 15 stories above ground? Go behind the scenes with fire, rescue, and hazardous materials crews in the DFW area. Visit locations such as DFW Airport, Dallas Police Headquarters, and a Fire Department Rescue station. Learn about recent situations where emergency operations centers have had to take control, and write your own emergency response plan.

Hoop it Up Strategies

If you love basketball, come down to the Eloise Lundy Rec Center and be a part of the action. Play 3-on-3, 5-on-5, analyze strategies, and learn basic offenses and defenses. Bring water and a sack lunch or money for lunch, and wear appropriate basketball clothing/shoes. You've got to buy a rec card, but it's good for a year! If you've got game, this is the place to be.

Cost: $5 (under 18)/$15 (18 and over) for rec card

Cake Pops and Quilting

Want to learn how to create beautiful quilts? Love eating and creating delicious desserts? This year you don’t have to choose! Join the fun in this best of both worlds class. We will learn the basics of quilting and how to make and decorate cake pops. We will also have potluck lunches both days where we can all share and enjoy great food and great company. Come ready to put your hands to work.

Emerging Technologies: AI & VR

Ever wonder about artificial intelligence and virtual reality? UTD student leaders from the Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality Societies will guide you through an introduction to these two topics. Come discover how neural nets recognize faces, build a chatbot, and try out a VIVE virtual reality headset. You’ll gain exposure to Python, the Unity game engine, and the SteamVR plugin as you complete either a game design or a mini-hackathon on day 2. Cost: optional lunch money

Unstressed TAG!

Through a combination of yoga asanas, meditation, and accupressure, participants will explore ways to achieve (or maintain) calming awareness in an often hectic environment. The two days will be divided among these three elements. Equipment is simple: a large towel, loose-fitting, comfortable clothes, and water. Those who participate will meet beforehand to decide what sorts of meals we wish to share.

ACQUIRE-d Strategy

Investment banking, mergers, acquisitions, buyouts, free markets, and real estate development. If you’re a future business magnate looking to break into the real estate investment world, or just someone who loves board games, then this TAG-IT is for you. Explore the strategy and workings of the game Acquire, a high stakes game of stock purchases, mergers, and acquisitions. We will be joined by SMU professor and regional director of real estate investments for MetLife, James Ray, who oversees investments in Texas as part of MetLife’s $56 billion real estate portfolio. James, who essentially plays Acquire every day in his real life, will give us some context to the game and how it relates to reality. This TAG-IT will culminate in a tournament. Can you deal your way to victory and beat a real estate professional? Come and find out.

Beyond DART

Why pay for a car when you don't need one? Come have a learning adventure using public transportation! We will be traveling to the Dallas Zoo and exploring downtown and the Dallas World Aquarium. Come out and enjoy the views and ease of public transportation on this wicked fun TAG-IT!!!! Cost: $25 (Zoo/aquarium entry fees and DART passes) plus lunch or lunch money
