JOB DESCRIPTION

Title of Post:Professionally Qualified Social Worker,

Locum/fixed term contract

Location:Initial assignment: Dun Laoghaire

The person appointed may be assigned to any of the Services

associated with the Lucena Clinic.

Essential

Qualification:NQSW or equivalent and must be registered to practice in the Republic of Ireland

Experience of working with children and families & of multi-
disciplinary teamwork is an advantage

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary Scale:4/20Scale

Ranging from €43,132to €56,889 (LSI)

Superannuation:The person employed will be required to join the Nominated Health Agencies Superannuation Scheme

Working Hours:(a) 35 actual working hours per week.

(b) Times of commencement of and termination of duty will be determined by your Supervisor.

(c) From time to time you may be required to work outside of these hours.

Holidays:The Order’s holiday year runs from 1st January to 31st December and the annual leave allowance is 25 days

plus a day in lieu of the St. John of God Feast Day.

Holiday entitlement for less than 12 months worked will be in proportion to the number of months worked.

Public Holidays:

Public holidays will be granted in accordance with the provision of the Working Time Act 1997.

Sick Leave:

(a)After six months service full pay may be granted for a maximum of six weeks sick leave during the first year of employment.

(b)On completion of one year’s service full pay may be granted - twelve weeks sick leave in any period of twelve months.

(c)It is a condition of payment of full pay for sick leave that all Disability Benefit in respect of the illness be claimed and paid to the Order.

Health:

Employment will be subject to the person selected undergoing a medical examination to satisfy the Order that he/she is in a fit state of health to undertake the duties of the position.

Ethical Clause:

The person employed is required to respect and to operate within the framework of the traditions, character and ethics which govern the work of the Order of St. John of God in Ireland.

ConfidentialityClause:

The person employedmay have access to information concerning the medical or personal affairs of clients and/or staff or other service business. Such records and information are strictly confidential and unless acting on the instruction of an authorised person, on no account must information concerning the staff or clients or other service business be divulged or discussed except as appropriate in the performance of normal duty. In addition, records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.

Health, Safety & Welfare:

It shall be the duty of every employee, while at work, to take reasonable care for his/her own safety, health and welfare and to report to his/her immediate supervisor, without unreasonable delay, any defects in equipment or system of work which might endanger safety, health or welfare, of which he/she becomes aware.

General:

The Lucena Clinic will not be liable for any expenses incurred by candidates in connection with interview, etc., or in relation to employment in this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Social Worker is employed by the Lucena Clinic and is responsible to the Director. He/she has a day-to-day reporting relationship through the Head Social Worker / Senior Social Worker.
  • He/she has a responsibility to carry out his/her duties on the basis of professional Social Worker role within a multi-disciplinary team and in keeping with National Guidelines
  • He/she will perform the normal duties of a Social Worker in a child mental health service and work on specified inter-disciplinary clinical teams.
  • The Social Worker has a responsibility to carry out his/her duties and to make decisions about his/her actions on the basis of his/her professional role within the Clinic.
  • He/she will be a member of the Social Work department and participate in discussions regarding policy practice and procedures
  • He/she will be responsible for linking clients with available resources whether these lie within the client themselves, the family, the agency or the community.
  • He/she will pay particular attention to the making and recording of appointments and to keeping concise and accurate records.
  • The Social Worker will ensure that he/she keeps up to date with new developments in the area of child and family research.
  • He/she may be required to undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Director or other designated person.
  • The Social Worker will report to the relevant Consultant Psychiatrist on clinical matters and to the Head of Social Work/Senior Social Worker on professional and administrative issues regarding his or her work as a member of a clinical team.
  • To contribute to service planning
  • To keep statistics and work with the Principal Social Worker/Head of Social Work with regards to the production of Social Work annual report.
