DIRECTOR OF FOOD SERVICES
CONTRACT: 2015-16 School Year – Beginning August 1, 2015
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 208 Contract Days
Salary as per exempt employee’s schedule
JOB GOAL: The Director of Food Services will be responsible for anything involving the
food service program of the district and all employees involved with the program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major/concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business management. or; Bachelor’s degree in any academic major, and State recognized certificate in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, or business management. or;
Associate’s degree or equivalent educational experience, with academic major/concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business management, and at least one year of relevant school nutrition programs experience.
2. Proper certification as a Food Protection Manager
3. Knowledge of operating the automated lunch system utilized by the district.
4. Successfully complete and pass a BCII and FBI check.
5. Knowledge of operating nutritional software program.
6. Proficient with Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Office. Ability to accurately compute and record
mathematical data.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Submits National School Lunch Program Application to ODE/Office of Child Nutrition every year.
2. Supervises all cafeteria human resources and physical resources.
3. Plans and supervises the menus at all schools in accordance with state guidelines. Performs nutritional analysis of menus for compliance with guidelines. Standardizes portion control and dietary requirements.
4. Manages food preparation activities. Trains food service staff in procedures to effectively accomplish assigned duties. Arranges for substitutes during staff absences as needed. Promotes professionalism.
5. Purchases and maintains inventory of all foods, supplies and equipment. Manages inventory control system for each building. Standardizes controls for inventory/ordering.
6. Work with Treasurer in the preparation and administration of the departmental budget.
7. Standardizes cafeteria accounting procedures according to the district treasurer’s office and state law. Enters all requisitions for food and supplies. Reconciles all invoices monthly before presenting them to the Treasurer for payment.
8. Downloads all applicable forms (free/reduced lunch forms, fee waiver forms, Healthy Start/Healthy Family form, sharing of information form), from ODE/Office of Child Nutrition and distributes to each building. These will be sent home in student packets at the beginning of the year.
9. Manages program for free or reduced lunches for students. Processes all free and reduced applications and notifies parents regarding status of application. Works with Treasurer, who reviews status of all free/reduced applications.
10. Manages program for student fee waivers. Processes all fee waiver applications and notifies parents regarding status of application.
11. Conducts yearly verification of current eligibility for free and reduced meals as required by federal law. Notifies parents regarding status of verification.
12. Manages all government surplus food purchases for school cafeteria use and directs its distribution and transfer. Provides assistance and suggestions for the preparation and serving of government surplus food.
13. Tabulates all monthly cashier reports and balances them. Prepares a monthly claim form and files it on CRRS for federal and state reimbursement.
14. Manages Time Ware for all Food Service employees and substitutes. Files Time Ware “exceptions” with payroll department and records all overtime payments and sub rate payments on monthly report to the State.
15. In conjunction with Director of Pupil Services, interviews, screens and recommends hiring and placement of all cafeteria personnel.
16. Performs employee evaluations of all Food Service personnel as required by LACE agreement.
17. In conjunction with the USDA, develops implements and supervises personnel development programs.
18. Inspects school lunch facilities and operations to ensure that standards of diet, cleanliness, health and safety are being maintained. Reports any necessary repairs needed to the appropriate department.
19. Makes recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment.
20. As required by federal law, informs the public, through local press, of current lunch menus, lunch prices, or any other pertinent information regarding the school lunch program.
21. Attends all conferences and workshops as required by the ODE/Child Nutrition Services.
22. Manages food cost control programs. Prepares food bid specifications. Obtains price quotes.
23. Addresses the needs of students with health conditions that necessitate dietary modifications.
24. Any reasonable/related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
REPORTS TO/EVALUATED BY: In the performance of duties, the Director of Food Services shall be
directly responsible to the Superintendent/Director of Pupil Services and
indirectly to other administrative staff.
