Common Core and NC Essential Standards Connections

I think this project best relates to the common core standards for high school: functions. Under these standards it talks about domain, input/output, functions, graphs, expressions, analyzing functions, and it also includes linear, quadratic, and exponential models in the overview. It lists to, “construct and compare linear and exponential models and solve problems” which students would be able to do when reviewing my website pages. Under the domain- High school: functions-Linear, Quadratic, and exponential models there are five standards. The standards identify constructing and comparing the three (linear, quadratic, and exponential) models and solving problems. They also outline, “interpret expressions for functions in terms of the situation they model” (High School). The standards include discussion on exponential growth and decay, constant rate, comparing functions through a sequence, graph, description, or table, observations, and exponential models. Here are the standards in this domain:

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.2

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.3

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.4

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.B.5

Construct and compare linear, quadratic, and exponential models and solve problems.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.1
Distinguish between situations that can be modeled with linear functions and with exponential functions.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.1.a
Prove that linear functions grow by equal differences over equal intervals, and that exponential functions grow by equal factors over equal intervals.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.1.b
Recognize situations in which one quantity changes at a constant rate per unit interval relative to another.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.1.c
Recognize situations in which a quantity grows or decays by a constant percent rate per unit interval relative to another.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.2
Construct linear and exponential functions, including arithmetic and geometric sequences, given a graph, a description of a relationship, or two input-output pairs (include reading these from a table).

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.3
Observe using graphs and tables that a quantity increasing exponentially eventually exceeds a quantity increasing linearly, quadratically, or (more generally) as a polynomial function.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.A.4
For exponential models, express as a logarithm the solution to abct = d where a, c, and d are numbers and the base b is 2, 10, or e; evaluate the logarithm using technology.

Interpret expressions for functions in terms of the situation they model.

CCSS.Math.Content.HSF.LE.B.5
Interpret the parameters in a linear or exponential function in terms of a context.

The content of these standards connect with my project information of the linear, exponential, and quadratic functions. The site I created could be used as practice and review for students when learning these standards. They could have the website URL to refer to when needing help comparing/contrasting or just solving a problem based off of one of the functions. There are videos, songs, extra problems, sites for extra help on my site that would aid instruction for students learning these standards.
