The Systems Overview introduces Teams to the components of developing a Tier 2/RtII support approach including system infrastructure, teaming structure and roles (e.g., SAP/SWPBS), universal screening, problem-solving process, and secondary level interventions.

10:00 – 11:00Universal Screening: Problem-Solving for Social, Emotional, and Academic Learning Skills

Universal Screening (US) is essential to the RtII/SWPBS framework. This module is an introductory level presentation defining Universal Screening, describing common Universal Screening Tools, offering a practical example of one school’s use ofUniversal Screening and its role in the RtII framework. School Teams will need to select US tools appropriate for their setting and obtain additional training and technical assistance to use specific US Tools.

11:00 – 12:00Tier 2 Interventions: CICO and Other Secondary Supports

Check-in/Check-out is an effective first line intervention for chronic, mild to moderate behavioral difficulties. CICO may be used alone or in conjunction with other interventions such as Check and Connect, social and academic instructional groups (SAIG), targeted groups with a special feature, and simple functional behavior assessment.

12:45 – 1:15Initial Line of Inquiry (ILI)

The Initial Line of Inquiry (ILI) is a staff/family friendly approach to engage in problem-solving around an individual student’s social, emotional, and academic learning skill issues. ILI may be used in conjunction with Interventions Decision Tool to focus intervention plan for a student.

Simple Functional Based Assessment with Positive Behavior Support Plan is an effective Tool for intervening early with students that have responded poorly to commonly used secondary level supports.
