STATE AND SPONSOR ARTIST OF THE YEAR

ART CONTEST

On behalf of Idaho Ducks Unlimited, I would like to personally invite you to participate in the 2015-2016 Idaho Ducks Unlimited State and Sponsor “Artist of the Year” Art Contest. The annual art competition will be held in conjunction with the Idaho Ducks Unlimited State Convention in Boise, Idaho, June 20th through 22nd, 2014. To participate, create and submit one or more digitized images of original paintings to be considered for the State and/or Sponsor Artist of the year.

Wildlife art has traditionally played an important role in fundraising for Ducks Unlimited. Today, it remains one of the major fundraising tools throughout the year.

In the world of not-for-profits there is always uncertainty, because we depend entirely on the support and commitment of our volunteers to help us raise the funds we need to get the DU conservation job done.

So again, I invite your support and participation in this annual program.

CONTEST ELIGIBILITY:

Maximum image size of entries should be 14" X 20" in a JPEG file format up to a size of 5 MB, and completed within two (2) years of application. Entries with "watermarks" will not be accepted.

Submitted original artwork must not have been previously reproduced or used for public promotion prior to this competition.

Entries are to be submitted as digital images and are to be sent, with completed application/agreement, to the Art Chairperson, Liz Humphries. The application is a contractual agreement by the artist and Idaho Ducks Unlimited to the general rules of this competition. Application(s) must be signed and submitted by the artist, not his or her agent.

All submissions must be received no later than May 31st, 2014 for the 2015/2016 competition.

SUBJECT MATTER:

The art should be reflective of wildfowl, habitat, or the hunting experience in Idaho, for example; Geese,Puddle Ducks, and Diver Ducks. Some of the winning entries have also included: hunting dogs, big game and upland game birds. You may submit more than one art image.

RESTRICTIONS ON SUBJECT MATTER OF ENTRY

The design must be the contestant’s original “hand drawn/painted” creation. The entry design may not be copied or duplicated from previously published art, including photographs, or from images in any format published on the Internet. Photographs, computer-generated art, art produced from a computer printer or other computer/mechanical output device are not eligible to be entered into the contest and will be disqualified.

JUDGING:

All submissions will be judged initially by the Art Committee.

Judging considerations will be given to:

A.Anatomical accuracy

B.Landscape authenticity

C.Design composition

D.Print reproducibility

E.Marketability of subject matter

Finalists will be determined by the Art Committee and winners will be selected at the State Convention.

CRITERIA:

The artist selected as the State Artist of the Year and the Sponsor Artist of the year will not be eligible the following year for the same category.

The Idaho State Print of the Year will be used at area Ducks Unlimited banquets and events, generally at auctions, to raise funds for wildlife and wetlands conservation.

The Idaho Sponsor Print will be issued as a Sponsor incentive and may be used to enhance Idaho’s art program nationally.

The State Artist of the Year and Sponsor Artist shall not sell the Artist’s given proofs within the state of Idaho until after the winning year (July 1, 2015 thru June 30, 2016) is completed, so as to not decrease the fundraising value to Ducks Unlimited.

PRESENTATION, SIZE, AND MEDIA:

Any media or combination of media must be capable of print reproduction (should the subject art be selected for either category) will be considered.

Artwork may be subject to being reproduced smaller or larger than the original. Three-dimensional art is not eligible.

RESULTS OF COMPETITION:

Winning originals will be requested for the purpose of producing a limited edition print series of the winning art. The Art Committee shall bear the cost of the print reproduction and reasonable shipping.

State Print -

Idaho Ducks Unlimited agrees to produce a limited edition series of 150 prints. Of those, the State Artist of the Year will receive 100 of the prints in Artist Proofs. The artist agrees to sign and number the edition of approximately 50 prints and to remarque the first 20 prints of the edition.

Sponsor Print -

Idaho Ducks Unlimited agrees to produce a limited edition series of approximately 300 prints. Of those, the Sponsor Artist of the Year will receive 100 of the prints in Artist Proofs. The artist agrees to sign and number the edition of approximately 200 prints and to remarque the first 20 prints of the edition.

All prints are to be signed in the bottom right hand corner and numbered in the left hand corner within ¾ of an inch below the image. Remarques are to be drawn near the right hand corner, left hand corner or near the printed title (center) and to be no more than ½ inch from the bottom edge of the print.

The original paintings will be returned after completion of the edition printings.

The 2015/201 artists and Idaho Ducks Unlimited Art Committee agree to have the finished series available before or no later than April 1, 2015.
