Job Title:Independent Living Worker

Reports to:Independent Living Manager

Salary:£8.45 per hour

Sleepover rate of £31.35

Organisational pension contribution (3% to an individual plan)

Location:Cantray Square or other location determined by the employer

Job Purpose

The Independent Living Worker role is to provide support to adults with a learning and/or physical disability and/or autism spectrum condition to enable them to maintain their tenancy, to live their lives fully by supporting their goals and aspirations.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. To deliver effective independent living support services to young people with a learning and/or physical disability or autism spectrum condition.
  2. To support young people in understanding their rights and responsibilities in relation to maintaining their tenancy and being an active and independent person at home and in other settings.
  3. Working to the National Care Standards and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Code of Practice and promoting their application in the workplace to service users.
  4. To support service users to complete paperwork relevant to their tenancy and financial matters.
  5. To play a key role in maintaining accurate records of support provided.
  6. To uphold the organisation’s policies in relation to the care and protection of vulnerable young people entrusted to our care, especially Adult Support and Protection (2007) Act and Adults with Incapacity (2000), Houses of Multiple Occupancy rules.
  7. To engage actively with the Cantraybridge internal and external quality assurance processes including: Care Inspectorate inspections, monthly staff meetings and support & supervision meetings.
  8. Willing to participate in organisational fundraising activities

Dimensions

TheIndependent Living Worker plays a vital role in supporting service users with all aspects of their outcome focused support plans, working within the framework of the National Care Standards and the SSSC Code of Practice. Your role is one of frontline response and support for service users and support staff.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Post Title:Independent Living Worker

Essential / Desirable
Education/ Qualifications/ Training / SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent / SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care including fire safety, first aid.
Experience/
Knowledge /
  • Have previous experience of working with individuals who have a learning disability and an understanding of the client group.
  • Understanding of the practical application of the National Care Standards and SSSC Code of Practice.
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding of person-centred approaches to service delivery.
  • Understanding of Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000
/ Understanding of working in the third sector.
