WJ Booster August Minutes
January 10, 2018
President’s Report: - Melissa Keller reported that:
- Gail Gleeson could not be here and is the co-chair of used book sale
- Used Book sale needs volunteers
- Book drop off has begun
- Mary Bittle cannot be here and is the chair of mulch sale and will be getting the website up by the end of the month
- Melissa introduced Janice – the new Webmaster for WJ Boosters
- We need to think of the slate of officers for next year
Administration – Terry Heintze was not able to be at the meeting tonight:
- No news from admin
Athletic Director – Tom Rogers reported that:
- Baseball field irrigation system fixed
- Contract for the renovation of the softball field
- Mrs. Baker is speaking with Division of construction to get the field renovated
- The softball field needs to be completely re-build
- Other funding requests will be coming – for nets around the discus cage
Treasurer’s Report – Ann McGregor
- Reviewing bank statements
- Detailed spreadsheet shared to explain spending to date
Membership – Terry Forline was not at the meeting
Sports Commissioner:Cheryl Lopez reported
- Reached out to the coaches to remind them if they have any funding requests that we only have 4 meetings left
- Reminded coaches that our 2 biggest fundraisers are coming up – Used Book Sale and Mulch Sale
Funding Requests:
- Robotics
- Nat Goldstein & Jason
- Asking for $2,500 – this is for the workshop at the University of Maryland
- Money is used for the yearly kit including the brain and Roomba which they use to build the robot
- Materials to build the competition board
- Materials, competition, registration fees are what the $2,500 are being used for
- Tom Rogers moved to fund; BA seconds the motion –
- 10 YAY’s / 0 No’s
- Stella Steppers
- Asking for $1,020for funding for the admission fee and to go see the Step Africa performance at Strathmore
- They will be competing
- The uniforms will make them look more professional
- The girls gave a presentation
- They have a sponsor but no coach
- Karen Belt motions to fund; Sebastian seconds the motion
- 10 Yays/ 0 – no’s
- Model UN Club
- $2,980 to go to a conference in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins University for the total student registration fee to attend the conference
- 4-day conference at Hopkins – 32 students go to the conference from WJ
- Explained “What is Model UN?”in their presentation
- Conference held at the Hilton in Baltimore – this conference is one of the most prestigious conferences to attend; they provide a
- Additional programs for the students such as a tour of Johns Hopkins University and or Camden yards

- The funding will be used for registration fees and hotel rooms for the students
