New Planet Icebreaker

Due to the pollution in the air, the Earth’s ozone layer has become far too thin. The days are getting hotter and hotter. In a couple of days the Earth is going to be too hot for humans to survive. NASA has a rocket that will send people to a new planet so that they can repopulate and the human species will not become extinct. The only problem is the rocket can only take 10 people.

In your groups, decide on the 10 individuals that should go to the new planet. Write down any remarks or feelings you have about why any individual should or shouldn’t go for discussion later.

  • 30 year old White British male, garbage collector, has a wife.
  • 21 year old Polish male, photographer, single.
  • 70 year old Scandinavian male, retired lawyer.
  • 50 year old Black British female, doctor, cannot have children.
  • 45 year old Russian male, investment banker, very wealthy.
  • 40 year old Indian male, dentist.
  • 22 year old Black South African female, college student, studying the environment.
  • 30 year old White American male, famous actor, known to use drugs.
  • 14 year old Nigerian male, football player, has part-time job as cashier.
  • 38 year old White American male, pilot and astronaut, has the flu.
  • 29 year old Black British female, botanist (studies plants/trees).
  • 49 year old Asian-British male, member of parliament.
  • 27 year old Pakistani male, reporter for the local newspaper.
  • 30 year old Italian female, cook, owns her own restaurant.
  • 16 year old White Britishmale, farmer.
  • 60 year old White British female, astronomer.
  • 52 year old Ghanaian male, fisherman.
  • 49 year old White British female, aircraft repairwoman.
  • 22 year old White British female, singer, dancer, actress, smoker.
  • 28 year old African-American male, professional basketball player.
  • 33 year old White South African male, carpenter, has the chicken pox.
  • 28 year old Icelandic female, psychologist, counselor, has fear of flying.

Once you have made your choices we will discuss them and see how the choices compare to the other groups and also find out if there are any other issues to consider.
