Short Description of the Company / Surfrider Foundation Europe is a non profit organization, dedicated to defending, saving, improving and managing in a sustainable manner the ocean, coastline, waves and the people who enjoy them.
From its creation, efforts have been concentrated oncoastal issues, but today our scope of interest andinvolvement is spreading to relatedareas of lakes and rivers.
Created in 1990 in Europe (Biarritz, France) by surfers, including 3-time World Surfing Champion Tom Curren, the organization brings together today about 1500 volunteers, 10000 members, about 40 local chapters, and more than 40 000 supporters in Europe.
Surfrider Foundation is a global network of regional organizations and local chapters present in many countries and on every inhabited continent (USA, Europe, Japan, Australia, Latin America,…). It started in 1984 in Malibu, California, where surfersaimed to protect their favourite surf spots from local pollution.
It has extensive experience and expertise in the areas of research, local action, conservation and advocacy as well as in raising awareness through the creation and diffusion of educational tools in the following thematic action programmes: marine litter, water quality and users’ health, maritime transport and coastal degradation, preservation of environmental and social heritage related to surfing.

PLACEMENT INFORMATION
Department / Function / Surfrider is looking for a student (a Convention de stage or written agreement with a University is compulsory) to join its lobbying and environment department in Surfrider's office in Brussels.
Description of activities / Under the supervision of the Lobbying coordinator, the selected candidate will conduct an historical and statistical study on the risks inherent in the trend for colossal container ships (state of the art, legal status, main stakeholders, crisis management, etc) and will contribute to the lobbying strategy of Surfrider in this field.
