12-hour Choral Marathon,
in aid of St Columba’s Church Roof Appeal, Downing Street, Cambridge CB2 3EL
Saturday May 23rd 2015, 9:00am – 9:00pm
Cambridge Voices, one of this country’s finest chamber choirs, under the direction of their indefatigable Founder and Director, Ian de Massini, will present a 12-hour Choral Extravaganza in St Columba’s Church, Downing Street, Cambridge CB2 3EL, in aid of the church’s Roof Appeal, on Saturday May 23rd, from 9:00am till 9:00pm. On that day, the choir will be in attendance for the whole 12 hours, whilst you and other members of the public will be warmly invited to come along at any time during that 12-hour period and choose any piece of music from the choir’s current repertoire, and have the choir surround the audience and sing it to you, there and then, for which you’ll then be invited to offer a contribution to the church’s roof fund-raising appeal.
The choir has a vast array of pieces of music currently in their repertoire, including all of the arias and choruses from Handel’s Messiah, from Fauré’s Requiem, and from Duruflé’s Requiem, plus sacred anthems and motets from the panoply of Europe spanning more than 600 years, from such composers as Bach, Bertolusi, Brahms, Byrd, Cornelius, Darke, De Massini, Dering, Dowland, Ešenvalds, Gesualdo, Gibbons, Guerrero, Josquin, Kuhnau, Lassus, Lotti, Monteverdi, Mouton ,Mozart, Nardone, Palestrina, Philips, Poulenc, Purcell, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Ravenscroft, Schütz, Sheppard, Stanford, Tallis, Tavener, Taverner, Tye, Vaughan Williams, Victoria, and Vlahek. There’ll also be lots of entertaining Close-Harmony arrangements, Gospel Songs, and Spirituals, all of which have been written exclusively for this innovative and enterprising choir. Do come along, and tell your friends and family, and come and listen to some of the most ravishing pieces of choral music ever written, sung personally to you, with the choir spatially positioned around the whole audience.
