Overall Purpose: To plan, deliver and evaluate appropriate group activities that support the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver activities meeting the identified needs of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
  • Build relationships with children and their carers and clearly communicate an understanding of learning needs.
  • Liaise with the “qualified teacher” in ensuring high quality early years activities for children, parents and carers.
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments have been conducted and that all relevant safety checks have been carried out.
  • Welcome, support and enable inclusive participation of families in activities and services appropriate to their needs.
  • Carry out initial home visits where appropriate to induct parents onto parenting courses.
  • Support the Family Support Worker in making accurate observations of families open to family support.
  • Maintain confidentiality appropriate to your role.
  • Maintain a competent understanding of safeguarding and child protection policy and procedures, responding appropriately to any issues.
  • Be aware of and follow ECI policies and procedures, with particular attention to standards of customer service, health and safety, and equality and diversity.

  • The needs of Early Years Foundation Stage are identified and met.
  • Early Years Foundation Stage delivery meets required standards of operation.
  • Budget is controlled and all financial procedures are followed.
  • Plans and risk assessments are implemented.

/ Essential:
  • Demonstrates a sensitive approach to vulnerable people maintaining their dignity and self-respect at all times.
  • Previous experience in an early years and childcare environment, working with 0 to 5 years children in a voluntary or paid capacity.
  • Experience of child protection & safeguarding work
  • Knowledge & understanding of child development & parent support work
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of the national agenda for childcare, key legislation & relevant public/statutory bodies.
  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector.
  • Knowledge of statutory, private, voluntary and community groups.

Qualifications
NVQ Level 2 working towards a Level 3 or equivalent in Early Years and Childcare
