Classroom Rules and Procedures
Mrs. Milkowski
6th Grade Reading Language Arts
The survival tips outlined below explain how I expect you to conduct yourself in class this school year. Rules and procedures help make our classroom a productive and positive learning environment for everyone. Overall, I expect two things: (1) Be nice (2) Work hard
· Guidelines for Success: I expect the following behaviors…
1. Respectful: being courteous and polite to others
2. Responsible : being mindful of one’s behavior and completion of work
3. Resourceful: thinking of new ways to get things done or use items
4. Resilient: willing and able to adjust easily to change; able to overcome challenges
5. Reliable: dependable; people can count on you
· Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the following consequences:
v -1st offense = Warning
v -2nd offense = Parent Contacted
v -3rd offense = Teacher Detention (Parent Contacted again)
v -4th offense (AND SERIOUS Infractions) –______
Teacher detention will be held in my classroom starting at 2:35 sharp on Tuesday and / or Thursday afternoons. Students will be assigned the next detention day and will be expected to attend. Let me know in advance if there is a scheduling conflict. Note: Serving TD takes priority over extra-curricular activities. Failure to attend a TD will result in an automatic office referral.
Classroom Behavior
1. Behavior for Entering the Class:
· Students will arrive to class with all necessary materials.
· At the bell, students must be in their seats and reading their independent novel.
· I will not answer any questions from the time the tardy bell rings until I have had time to take attendance and we have finished our 20 minutes of independent reading. Please be respectful of others during this time.
2. Behavior for Leaving the Class:
· The bell does not dismiss you – I do! This important! You do not want to miss last-minute instructions!
· It is your responsibility to clean up your personal work area. You will not be dismissed until this task is completed.
· Students are expected to follow WCJH hallway rules.
3. Asking and Responding to Questions:
· Raise your hand to ask a question or contribute to class discussions.
· Listen without interruption when others are speaking.
· Be respectful of others’ ideas, even if you do not agree.
4. General Classroom Behavior:
· Be responsible in how you choose to conduct yourself: It is NEVER okay to be rude, ridicule, make fun of or disrespect anyone in any way.
· No physical horseplay will be accepted in the classroom, even with friends.
· NO food, gum or drinks other than water during class.
Classroom Procedures
1. Format for Heading your Papers:
· It is important to include your FULL NAME, block period, date and title of the assignment in all of your assignment headings.
2. Homework and Missing/Late Work
· Turn in all assignments ON TIME as directed by the teacher.
· The teacher is not responsible for ‘missing’ work that was not submitted correctly.
· Please! DO NOT put homework or any assignment on my desk!
· All late work is deducted ______pts.
3. Restroom Breaks/Water Fountain:
· You should make every effort between class to get a drink and use the restroom.
4. Tardiness:
· Attendance will be taken with the seating chart so you need to make sure you are in your assigned seat at the bell. Please be on time.
· If tardy, enter class quietly and give teacher a pass if you have one.
5. Class Absence:
· Check the Absent Folder for your block period for missed work.
· It is your responsibility for getting the make-up work and class notes (I will not hunt you down)!
· If an assignment is DUE on the day of your absence and it is an EXCUSED absence, then it is due the day you get back to class.
· If the assignment is ASSIGNED on the day of your absence and it is an EXCUSED absence, then you will receive two days to complete assignment for every day you are absent (starting the day you return).
· If your absence is not excused, then your assignment will be considered late and will follow the WCJH late policy.
6. Early Finishers:
· Read either assigned novel or self-selected book.
· Work on Reading ISN or Writing Portfolio.
· Review Vocabulary.
7. Class Library:
· Books in our classroom library are available for check-out.
· Books MUST be signed in and out.
· Books can be checked out for a one week period.
· Please take good care of all books so that others may enjoy them.
