Video Game Policy

The Fondulac District Library is excited to invite our Young Adults to use our gaming systems. There are many benefits to offering a gaming program to our Young Adults. Video games encourage social interaction as well as educate the individuals who participate in them. Studies display games aid perception, cognition and decision making. They also encourage team work. The Fondulac District Library also sees the games as a way to expose patrons to the variety of services that the library offers.

Patrons using the Library’s gaming system are encouraged to read the Video Gaming Policy to ensure proper and safe use of the gaming systems. Failure to follow these policies will result in loss of gaming privileges.

Any damages that occur to the Library’s space and equipment and to the gaming system or accessories will be the responsibility of the patron signing out the materials. Patrons who wish to play the PlayStation 4 or the Steam Station must sign out all games and controllers from the reference desk. To play these systems the patron must have a valid library card or a picture ID.

The patron will be allowed to play one of the systems for 1 hour. If there are no patrons waiting to use the system when that time is up they may renew their time for half of an hour. They may renew twice, receiving a total of two hours of game time per day. There will be two game controllers for each system. Two people may play at a time unless the game is a party game or allows individuals to share the controllers.

Gamers may only use the equipment and games available at the library. No games, memory card, or extra accessories from home may be used at the library. The library will not allow the games or equipment to be taken from the library. Games will not be saved.

All games must be ended and equipment must be returned to the reference desk 30 minutes before the library closes.

Patrons are asked to treat the equipment gently. They will also be asked to respect others and keep the volume and noise level low. This includes no inappropriate language or actions. If patrons do not follow these guidelines they will lose their gaming privileges for the day. If there are continued problems, further action will be taken.
