The Hughesville Hurricanes Youth Sports is seeking tackle, flag, and cheerleading coaches for the 2016 season.
It is our objective to create a meaningful and rewarding experience for our players. We are asking qualified candidates (both head and assistant coach candidates, INCLUDING RETURNING coaches who coached last year) to complete an application no later than Friday, April 29th. Applications for coaching positions will be reviewed by the Board and qualified candidates for tackle head coaching positions will be required to participate in an interview in May before final assignments are made.
The Hurricanes are seeking qualified coaching candidates who can demonstrate the following credentials and/or qualities:

  • Prior playing and/or coaching experience (mandatory for tackle head coaching candidates only),
  • Inspire a positive and productive learning environment for all players,
  • Serve as a positive role model for our children,
  • Put the best interests of the children above his own,
  • Communicate well with players, parents, other coaches, the league commissioner and the Hurricane board,
  • Willing to make the necessary time commitment (Note: a typical week in the summer practice is 4 days a week and 3 practices per week with games on Saturday and one weekday once school has started.),
  • Follow the rules established by the league, especially those associated with playing time for all players,
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of all players,
  • Provide authorization to the league to complete a background check,
  • Attend mandatory coaches meetings, as established by the league commissioner and/or Hurricanes board of directors,

Minimum Qualifications for Coaching

To be eligible for anyHughesville Hurricanes season, coaches must meet the following criteria:

1. Be in good standing with the league
2. Meet minimum age requirements: Head Coach (21); Assistant Coach (18)
3. Understand and abide by our Code of Conduct
4. Be currently certified or agree to obtaincertifications as determined by SMYAC

Head Coach Selection Process

The Hughesville Hurricanes coaching committee will review all coaching applications, make their initial selections for the head coach openings and then contact these candidates. Selected candidates who pass the background check will be named as head coaches and will be provided with the names of assistant coaches based on the volunteer interests expressed through the player registration process and the remaining coaching volunteer applicant pool.

Assistants Coaches Selection Process

The selected head coaches will submit their assistant coach selections to the coaching committee who will review the candidate list. The coaching committee will approve the selected candidates who have completed the online application andpass the mandatory background check will be named as assistant coaches within their respective teams.
