Heidi Vogt and Rahim Faiez of the Associated Press highlight clashes between troops in Afghanistan and protesters in response to the burning of the Quran and other Muslim religious material. The protests were spread over four eastern provinces including at a U.S. military base, which speaks to the anger of the Afghan people over these actions.

Black smoke rises into the sky from tyres that were burnt by protesters during an anti-US demonstration in Kabul, Afghanistan, Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012. Police say anti-American demonstrations are under way on the outskirts of the Afghan capital and in another city over an incident that the U.S. says was inadvertent burning of Muslim holy books at a military base.[2]
According to the article, the unrest started at Bagram Air Field where Afghan workers “saw soldiers dumping books in a pit where garbage is burned and noticed Qurans and other religious material among the trash.” The US NATO Commander, General John Allen, quickly issued an apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai. A total of four copies of the Quran were burned before the incineration was stopped.
The protests have left seven dead and many others injured as Afghan protesters have described the incident as “foreign forces flouting their laws and insulting their culture.” It is unclear how this will affect Afghan-U.S. relations going forward.

According to an article from AFP, the Nigerian army has dismissed earlier reports that the attacks on oil pipelines were carried out by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND). The army claims to have seven suspects and is demanding that they turn themselves in immediately. These seven individuals are purported to be the “brains” behind the attack.

Nigeria's army said Tuesday that seven suspects linked to a weekend oil pipeline attack must immediately turn themselves in and dismissed a claim of responsibility purported to be from militant group MEND.[4]
AFP reports that the oil pipeline was not a significant one. It is operated by Agip, which is a subsidiary of an Italian oil group ENI. However, many see this attack as a sign of things to come, as more attacks may become rampant. MEND maintains its noninvolvement in the attacks and attributes earlier reports to attempts to swindle Niger Deltans by discrediting MEND leadership.
Nigeria is Africa’s most populated nation and the top oil producer.
Christian Pastor in Iran Sentenced to Death for Apostasy[5]

Fox News reports that Iran courts have convicted a Christian pastor, Youcef Nadarkhani, and have sentenced him to death for leaving Islam and converting to Christianity. According to Lisa Daftari, “the 34-year old father of two,” who was arrested over two years ago, ís being held on charges of apostasy. There are fears that Nadarkhani will be executed in retaliation for Western sanctions placed on Iran over its nuclear program.
An undated photograph circulated by religious rights organizations shows Youcef Nadarkhani and his family.[6]
Daftari underlines that Nadarkhani appealed the lower court’s ruling citing that he did not practice Islam in his age of adulthood, which is between 15 and 19 years of age in Islamic law. Nadarkhani’s case went to Iran’s Supreme Court which then upheld the ruling of the lower court since he was born into a Muslim family.
Under Iranian law, the court offered Nadarkhani three chances to recant his Christian beliefs and return to Islam. The article states that Nadarkhani did not agree to convert back to Islam nor declare Muhammad a prophet. It is unclear whether the US or other Western countries will take action on behalf of Nadarkhani and his family.

Iran Threatens Oil Cuts[8]
JCF
HSAPM
According to an article from the Associated Press, Iran is considering placing more oil embargos on European countries. Unofficial reports from Iranian officials suggest that Tehran would not sell oil to countries that take action against Iran over its nuclear program–an effort led by the West.
Nasser Karimi of AP states that France and Britain have been the first victims. The article cites Iran’s announcement in which its actions were described as “a pre-emptive retaliation for an EU embargo over Tehran's controversial nuclear program that is scheduled to go into effect in July.” Both France and Britain have downplayed the importance of Iran’s embargo on their nations.
The news of Iran’s actions, however, has sparked higher oil prices, which are at a nine-month high in places like Asia. European countries such as Spain, the Netherlands, Greece, Germany and many others could face similar fates as a result of their part in EU sanctions against Iran. It remains to be seen whether the Western efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear program can continue with rising oil prices.
Iran has also announced that it will preemptively strike any nation that threatens it amid reports of Israel’s own potential preemptive strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites.
Two Western Journalists among the Dead after Syrian Military Shells Homs[9]

HSAPM
The Associated Press reports that two journalists were killed by Syrian forces in their attempt to recapture areas in Homs held by Syrian rebels. According to Bassem Mroue, the Syrian military sought to crackdown on its opposition by seizing towns and neighborhoods controlled by the rebels in what can lead to an even more widespread conflict.

February 9, 2012. The dead body of a Free Syrian Army fighter lies in an storage refrigerator in al-Qsair.[10]
Valerie Pecresse, the French government spokeswoman, announced that a French photojournalist and an American veteran war reporter working on behalf of Britain's Sunday Times were among the dead–killed by Syrian government shelling. The article cites France’s Foreign Minister, Alan Juppe, in stating that the events are proof of the “increasingly intolerable repression” by Syria’s military.
The Obama administration hopes for a political solution. However, there has been renewed talk of arming the rebel forces with more news of the increasing casualties stemming from the Assad regime’s brutal crackdown.
Protestors Object to Wade’s Bid for a Third Term[11]
JCF
HSAPM
According to the BBC, the former Nigerian leader, Olusegun Obasanjo, is in Dakar attempting to relieve some of the tension caused by President Abdoulaye Wade's third bid for President. Anti-Wade protests have led to six deaths in the weeks leading up to the elections. Obasanjo is head of a joint African Union-Economic Community of West African States observer mission.
Protests have centered on the fact that Senegal’s constitution “limits heads of states to two terms in office.” However, Senegal’s highest court ruled that since Wade was in his first term when the limitation was introduced, he could run for another term.
(AFP)
Police fired tear gas at anti-Wade protesters on Tuesday.[12]
The M23 movement has led the nationwide protests against Wade claiming that his bid for a third term is illegal. Obasanjo is set to meet the leaders of the movement in hopes to keep the election process peaceful and prevent further bloodshed. Wade has no plans to step down if elected. It is unclear whether the M23 movement would continue its opposition if Wade receives a third term.

Revealed in May2009
On the 23rd day of May 2009, the word of The Lord came to me saying, “there will be hard times, severe hard times, and diseases, disasters, peril, drought, and famine shall multiply in this nation and in the nations of the world because evil and abomination abound. A great number of angry and disgruntled people in this nation and in the nations of the world will rebel against their governments and their leaders by various acts of violence and disobedience against the laws of their lands because of their hardship, and this shall become rampant. Some will turn to The Most High God for deliverance and shall obtain mercy. But many will be overtaken by sin and lust, and will become adamant; their hearts will be hardened toward The Most High due to their lust and carnal desires. They shall be consumed in their sins and shall perish except they repent and turn from their evil ways. To My faithful servants will I manifest Myself and deliver them in times of trouble, and provide for them in times of drought and famine, and I will heal them and protect them in times of danger,” saith The Lord God Almighty.

MATTHEW
CHAPTER 24
1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 ¶ And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 ¶ Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 ¶ But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 ¶ Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
