Butler County Community College – Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Certificate Program (HEPC)
The Healthcare Emergency Preparedness Certificate (HEPC) program is designed for anypersonnel who have roles inhospital and healthcare emergency preparedness planning, response and recovery; those who have roles in municipal or general emergency preparedness and for anyone who has an interest in this field of study.
Examples of potential students would and could include any of the following: hospital administrators, physicians, nurses, pre-hospital personnel, nursing home administrators, municipal managers, emergency managers, public health administrators, law enforcement, firefighters, and any ancillary healthcare personnel.
The course will consists of ten (10) classes in total. Four (4) weeks per course. Nine (9) classes will be instructor-facilitated on-lineand the 10th class will be held at Butler County Community College utilizing Advanced Disaster Management Simulation (ADMS).

- Hospital Emergency Preparedness Part I
- Hospital Emergency Preparedness Part 2
- Healthcare Communications and Information Technology
- Leadership in All-Hazards Planning
- Healthcare and Public Safety Collaboration
- Public Health and Pandemic Planning
- Evacuation/AFC and Sheltering Considerations
- Legal and Ethical Issues
- TQM in Exercise Design
- ADMS Capstone/Graduation @ BC3 Public Safety Training Facility
- Cost of HEPC Program will is $3,599 per student for the complete program. Individual course modules will be $500 per student.
- Class size minimum of 10 students and maximum of 15 students.
- Prerequisites to HEPC – Establish a base line level of understanding.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) preferred.
- Basic Computer Training & Equipment – Note: BC3 has a prep course for on-line training.
Additionally, students will receive certification in Core Disaster Life Support (CDLS) from the National Disaster Life Support Foundation (NDLSF) when completing Hospital Emergency Preparedness 2.
The “resident” portion of the class (10th module, capstone program) will consist of using the Advanced Disaster Management Simulation (ADMS) system to "put it altogether" and have students be the Incident Commander and more. It will also be a "mini-conference" dedicated to the students in the class. There will be a dinner meeting the first evening, with a guest speaker or two, followed the next day with 8 hours of ADMS "play" and the last 1/2 day will be the graduation ceremony and course evaluation.
