JOB TITLE: Director of Community Development

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

The Director of Community Development works closely with the Discipleship Pastor, Senior Pastor, Session, and Diaconate in implementing the Vision (“Advance the Kingdom of God”) and Mission (“Experience and Express Grace”) of Southwood, specifically through our engagement within the Huntsville community. He/she is to partner with the Discipleship Pastor (and the rest of the staff) to engage and equip the congregation for expressing grace in our local community, primarily through word and deed mercy ministry.

5.Spiritual gifts of compassion, administration, and leadership that would suit him/her to the work of Community Development.

6.Strong decision-making skills and willingness to submit joyfully to authority.

7.A capable communicator in verbal and written delivery.

8.Temperament that thrives and can remain calm in crisis situations.

9.A high cultural IQ and can easily relate across cultural/ethnic/class barriers.

10.Strong people skills that help a broad range of people engage with mercy ministry.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Development at Southwood occurs primarily outside the walls of Southwood. We desire for all of our congregation to be equipped and moved toward our God-given mission in the community. The Community Development Director directs, leads, and facilitates all of our outward-focused ministries in Huntsville.

1.Be the point person with all of our local ministry partners and develop these and other relationships for the flourishing of the kingdom of God in Huntsville.

2.Educate the congregation about developmental practices and serving opportunities:

a.Sunday School classes

b.Individual relationships

c.Church Family Work Day

d.BRANCHES articles

e.Personal and Video Announcements in worship service

3.Lead the Community Development Team, which includes members from across the church community, and oversee benevolence budget for local partners.

4.Work with the Diaconate to coordinate congregational participation in ministry.

5.Coordinate the Host Team and all other assimilation efforts at Southwood on Sunday mornings toward the goals of engaging new members in the life of the church and creating a welcoming environment for outsiders.

6.Regularly participate in both full staff and ministry staff meetings.
