Tests:Three or Four Test during the semester. In addition, we will have a

Day Test each day by internet and/or class (count as one chapter test, keep
your own records, grade with a green pen on your own & report your results to Dr. Jordan on form provided. Approximately 15 to 20 Day Tests are given each semester.)

Grades:Final Exam counts 1/3 of total grade

Grade Scale95 A, 90 B+, 85 B; 80 C+, 70 C: (Could be Lower, but no Higher)

Contents:Chapter 7 Transcendental Functions (omit section 7.6), Chapter 8 Techniques of Integration, Chapter 9 Indeterminate Forms and Improper Integrals, Chapter 10 Infinite Series, Chapter 11 Numerical Methods, Approximations (only section 11.1 and either section 11.2 or 11.3), Chapter 12 Conics and Polar Coordinates (only sections 12.6, 12.7 & 12.8). You will need to know the 10 Fundamental Functions. If time permits we will study other sections; We will demonstrate the use of the TI-83 Graphics Calculator but not required to purchase. You must attend the recitation sections on Monday & Wednesday.

Assignments:Given each day in Class. Students are required to bring a calculator to class and a green pen. Students are required to keep all old tests (Chapter Test & Day Test) and to correct and document all questions missed. Students are required to study this course at least 1.5 hours per day six (6) days per week. Students must bring all old tests (Day Test & Chapter Test) to Class on Thursday, April 22, 2004, November 21, 2003. Last day of class for spring 2004 is Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Reading day is Thursday, April 29, 2004. Spring Break is March 7 – 13, 2004.

W will not cover the following sections: 7.6, 11.4, 11.5, 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, and 12.5.

I am pleased to have you in Math 142 Calculus here at USC. The fact that you are officially enrolled for this course at USC means you are smart. I wish you the best of luck with this course and I hope it proves to be a Challenge, but most of all I hope you learn something.
