A Word from Mr. M and Mr. W.

Testing is done! Whoooo-Hoooo! The class did a great job, and everyone did their best. More than that no one can ask of any child or any person. We were very proud of each and every one of our rapidly developing Mavericks. We have some great news so let’s get right to the Mailgram!

G. O. is the IOWA Testing Champion

Mt. Bethel always names a single student as the IOWA Testing Champion for the entire school. In my whole of twenty-one years of teaching I have never had an IOWA Testing Champion in my room … until last Friday! Late Friday afternoon Ms. Appleyard named our own G. O. as the Testing Champion. As you know G. is new to our school. She and her two sisters who are in Ms. Haddock’s class have just been here since September 11th, and we all know coming to a new school is a huge adjustment. So Ms. O. not only worked hard transitioning to our school, but also gave her all to this difficult test. We are proud of you, G!

Conference Week

On the back of this Mailgram is the schedule for Conference Week next week. Please try to be punctual. If the worst happens and you are not able to make it, please call the front office for a reschedule and then let me know via email. Thank you.

Relaxing During an IOWA Break

The class worked very hard last week during our attempt to help the children of IOWA with their testing. The IOWA Test of Basic Skills is/was a rigorous and tense test for the children. . They all wanted to do well and show off for you. The test came in sections and between almost every test we had a short break to relax and “get the kinks out.” Here is a picture of “Brownie” as she “relaxed.” So, my question is this … when is the last time you “relaxed?”

Locomotives!

On Tuesday we had our second field trip and went to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. It was a beautiful day and we actually got to see The General locomotive. The class had already had extensive preparation for this trip and their Civil War education was further enhanced as they watched a docent actually load and fire a rifle! There were nine different steps required and the noise and smoke were especially exciting. On the left is the class ready to watch the demonstration and to the right you see Captain J. B. assisting the docent with the steps to load and fire the rifle.
