Sound of the 60’s is on the radio, and I thought what better time to sit and send you my monthly report, before the daily incidents start to come in! My last report to you was on the 4th February, so this will bring you up to date with the areas crime and happenings.
We are heading towards the 1st April, at which point the year to date (YTD) statistics are zeroed, we have over this past year seen a decrease in crime since last autumn, and the detection rate has been steadily hovering around 30 %.
For the two areas, NorthHykehamTown shows a rise of 7 more crimes YTD at 1%, and a detection rate of 29%. The crime rate was influenced by an increase in shoplifting, Burglary, and incidents of violence. The local initiative of information sharing with the local stores and shops, and a preventative stance taken by the managers and owners has seen the shoplifting figures steady and decline; There were seven more burglaries reported this year (25 in total), but significant arrests were made if you can recall on criminals who lived out of the county, as well as intelligence leading to local criminals; Violence overall saw a report of 38 offences, this is mostly derived from domestic arguments and not street or pub brawls.
Hykeham Rural (Villages) has shown a rise of 4 crimes YTD again at 1%, and a detection rate of 27%. The crime rate was influenced by the commercial / farm breaks last year, where heating oil, lead and metals were targeted. This again has declined, and crime target hardening, along with the new Scrap Metal Act has aided in dealing proactively with offenders. A list of authorised scrap collectors is issued by NKDC and distributed to my officers, unauthorised collectors are moved on / prosecuted, and have been literally escorted off the beat area to their homeland nearer the A1.
Since my last report we have had little acquisitive crime in NorthHykehamTown, there were two vehicles entered on the “Roman Estate” off Newark Road which had been left insecure, and as I left a traffic accident on the A46 yesterday afternoon, reports of two burglaries on Eastbrook Road, and a garage and vehicle break on Constance Avenue. These areas are just off my patch, but rest assured we are working alongside our colleagues to secure evidence and conducting joint patrols.
Travellers have moved onto TealPark (Siemens site), and we are engaging with them, and with our partners in LCC and NKDC.
The Hykeham Rural village of Bassingham has seen a rise in crime this period, this month we have had reports of garage, shed, and vehicle breaks (12 in total) which occurred overnight on the 5th March. This started in September with the first report of a burglary on Aubourn Road, in the past seven months we have had seven burglaries, and a further garage and vehicle break. The local community would have a noticed an increase in visible patrol activity, and “street surgeries” held at the SPAR shop. We have also been out in the hours of darkness, on plain clothed foot and cycle patrols, as well as driving around in unmarked hire cars. Dog and Traffic units have also been patrolling the village and surrounding area. We have made some ground on the intelligence and evidence gathering, and will continue with our patrol activities.
The key times from looking at the offences are mid afternoon to late evening for burglary, and over night (11pm to 5am) for the garage and shed breaks. It is obvious that the criminals are in the village watching and picking their targets, so please report all suspicious activity, even if you think it would be silly, please pick up the phone and report it.
All the above incidents were released on to the LincsAlert system, so again I strongly recommend that people sign up to it.
Kindest Regards
