Synopsis: Pictures of the 5 Chinese males who painted their faces black started circulating around the internet. This showing of Indians as being ‘black’ had upset many others in Singapore especially the Indian community. The Indians in Singapore had found this picture very offensive towards their race and feel discriminated. Other racial groups have also found it to be highly inappropriate and expressed their concerns.

Issue 2: Potential Terrorist Attacks
What: Attempted bombing of key locations in SingaporeWho: Jemaah Islamiyah

Synopsis: Jemaah Islamiyah is a militant group that is active in several Southeast Asian countries. Their goal is to set up an Islamic state in Asia and this was evidenced by their plot to destroy key installation in Singapore such as bombing Yishun MRT station and driving a hijacked plane into Changi Airport. Although Malay-Muslim organizations in Singapore had rejected ‘terrorist groups’ acting in the name of Islam, there have been uneasiness within the other ethnic groups in Singapore.
