Physical Education Department Mission

The mission of the Cromwell High School Physical Education Department is to challenge all students to develop the cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills essential to a fit lifestyle. We strive to provide diverse and challenging learning experiences that recognize students’ differences as well as teach responsible social behavior. Assessment

Class participation is the largest component of a student’s grade. The Physical Education Daily Grading Rubric (see attached) explains in detail.

Each student is required to take the preliminary and official CT Fitness test.

Students will take a written pretest at the beginning of the year and a written summative exam at the end of the year.

Regular assessments will be given periodically throughout the year (performance-based & cognitive).

In accordance with CCSS, the course will emphasize literacy to support college and career readiness.

If a student is physically unable to participate in the course due to a medical condition an alternative assignment will be provided to fulfill course requirement (see teacher for questions).

Successful completion of two ½ credit courses (10th and 11th grade) is mandatory for Cromwell High School’s graduation requirement of 1 credit of Physical Education. If you receive a failing grade, you will be required to repeat the course.

PE Course Outline - GUARDIAN PORTION

This portion of the course outline must be completed and turned in by next PE class in order to gain access to the locker room. If a student fails to complete and turn in this form they can participate, but for only up to half credit (5 points) as assessed by the daily participation rubric (10 points).

My son/daughter ______(print name) understands that he/she is responsible for his/her belongings and it is his/her responsibility to come prepared to class each day. This means purchasing a lock to secure all belongs in the locker room area. The PE department is not responsible for any lost/stolen items. I have also read the contents of the course outline and agree to the stated expectations.
