MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE CITADEL FAMILY ASSOCIATION HELD ON FRIDAY, MARCH 18, 2011AT DUCKETT HALL, THE CITADEL, 171 MOULTRIE STREET, CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA

- CALL TO ORDER
Shamus Gillen called the meeting to order at 11:10AM. He at that time made apologies for the need changes in time and room for this meeting. The planned location had to be used by the Admissions office at our previously scheduled time. We had to meet as this room was available.
- OPENING REMARKS, INTRODUCTIONS & WELCOME
Board Chair, James and Mary Game welcomed all who were present and thanked everyone for the work they have provided thus farto the CFA. This is a very hard time for them as they close the door on this chapter of their lives. The CFA and The Citadel in general has provided a lot of good times for them. They appreciate all of the efforts of everyone involved with CFA. The Games also gave a brief recap of activities the CFA has been involved in over the past year.
- APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There was a motion to approve the minutes of the August 13th meeting. This motion received a second. Motion carried.
- BOARD SECRETARY REMARKS
Patti echoed the Games’ thanks to all who have worked so hard to make the past year a success.
- CFA LIAISON OFFICE REMARKS
Shamus reported that the BBQ luncheon will again be held at the Stadium. He thankedthe many volunteers who participated in last years Matriculation Day activities. The Citadel has surpassed the number of applications over any previous years for incoming freshmen. He gave special praise to the Cleveland’s for Newsletter and photo work over this past year. Photos of last years Rec Day are also in the CFA newsletter.
Shamus made presentations to the outgoing board members.
Shamus presented the CFA Board for the 2011-2013 year as:
Chair: Greg and Jacque Bear
Vice-Chair: Ted Austin
Secretary: Joe and Patti Wilkes
Each of the nominees was asked to come forward and tell a bit about themselves and what they hope to bring to the CFA.
A motion was made to accept the nominees as presented. A second was given and the slate was approved unanimously.
Shamus then presented Committee Chairs for the 2011-2013 year as:
Volunteer Coordinator – Laurie Harvey
Cadet Recruitment/Retention – Tom and Sue Riegerix
Citadel Heroes Coordinator – Gwen Christ
Newsletter – Craig and Lisa Cleveland
Presentations were then made to the outgoing Committee chairs
- CITADEL HEROES
Joyce Ishmael reported that the Citadel Heroes has been a program newar and dear to her heart. She thanked all who have given donations for this project. She shared that Col. Carter’s office has been the backbone of the project. There is a link of the CFA website about the Citadel Heroes project. In addition to her work as the Citadel Heroes Coordinator, Joyce has been the ‘go to’ person any time there was a need for pre-knob visits. Shamus thanked Joyce heartily for her volunteer spirit.
- VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR
Sherri Parker gave a brief overview of her job as the Volunteer Coordinator. When she took over there were multiple databases of email addresses. Working with Cliff Hollingsworth, they have gotten this to a manageable database. She also asked those in attendance to sign up to volunteer for the Class of 2015 Matriculation Day. Sherri asked Laurie Harvey, the new chair for this committee to come forward. Sherri agreed to remain active with this position helping Laurie to learn the many jobs that it covers.
Thanks were offered to Rusty & Sherri Parker for all of their work of coordinating volunteers and getting information out to all of the volunteers. This is a monumental task.
- PRE-KNOB SPRING
Shamus extended thanks to the board members for their participation in the pre-knob visits. He commented that it is vital to the success of incoming cadets. He feels that it is important to have representation of different parents who have walked the walk these parents are about to travel.
- CONCLUDING REMARKS/OTHER
James and Mary again thanked all for their work and service over the past two years. Their work with the CFA has been very gratifying.
- NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be a meeting of the outgoing and incoming Officers and Committee Chairs on June 10, 2011 at 12 noon at Saffron.
