What happens next?
§ Short listing
After the closing date we will shortlist all Candidate Information forms, CVs and covering letters. The short listing process will assess your Candidate Information against the contents of the Person Specification. We aim to hopefully complete this exercise and inform successful candidates within 5 working days of the closing date.

§ Assessments
To assist in the selection process, candidates short listed for interview will also be required to undergo an assessment as part of the interview process. This will usually take place on the same day as the interview but in some cases a separate assessment day will be necessary.
The type of assessment depends on the role and the particular skills that we want to test. We use a variety of methods including case scenarios, presentations etc.
§ The Interview
The interview process is an opportunity for you to highlight your skills and experiences and to demonstrate how you meet the requirements of the job.
Interview panels will usually consist of two or three people that have a direct interest in the role, for example the line manager of the position, another senior member and a member of the HR team.
All candidates are asked the same core questions designed to test whether you have the experience, skills and attitude to deliver the requirements of the job and be an asset to College. Often supplementary questions will be asked to ensure that we get all the information we need to make the right decision.
We want you to give the best interview you can so if you require special facilities (e.g. a signer) you should inform us prior to the interview.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Health Economist - NCCMH
DEPARTMENT: National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH)
RESPONSIBLE TO: NCCMH Director (Associate Director day to day)

TECHNICAL SUPERVISOR: NCCMH Senior Health Economist, UCL

BACKGROUND
The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH was jointly established by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the British Psychological Society’s Centre for Outcomes, Research and Effectiveness (CORE) at University College London (UCL). It is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to develop evidence based clinical practice guidelines for the NHS, taking into account both clinical and cost effectiveness evidence.
JOB PURPOSE
1. Advise on health economics for the development of NICE mental health guidelines, as a member of the NCCMH technical guideline development team.
2. Collect relevant information, conduct decision analytic modelling, present economic evidence to the guideline development group and write up this evidence for the guideline.
3. Contribute more generally as part of the health economic team to the work of the Centre and to the development of methodology for guideline health economics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide economic input on specific clinical guidelines, usually working on two to three guidelines at any one time, in line with
NCCMH standard processes and NICE’s Technical Manual for guideline development
2. Review and synthesise existing economic evidence to inform each guideline.
3. Conduct primary economic modelling in areas where existing economic evidence is not comprehensive or applicable to the guideline context.
4. Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary technical team, which includes project managers, information scientists, systematic reviewers, research assistants and editors across the NCCMH at both the Royal College of Psychiatrists and UCL. The role of each member of the team can be found on http://nccmh.org.uk.
5. Contribute to expert Guideline Development Groups (GDGs) by making presentations of economic evidence and providing advice on health economics issues, to a mixed audience of clinicians, researchers, patients and carers.
6. Write up the economic sections of clinical guidelines (including methods and results of economic literature reviews and economic modelling).
7. Work closely with fellow health economists both in the NCCMH and across NICE‘s guideline development programme, developing methodology of guideline health economics and problem solving, and disseminate findings through publications and conferences.

1. Undertake any other duties related to the job purpose and which may be necessary in the work of the NCCMH.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Health Economist - NCCMH
This is a specification of the qualifications, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities that are required to carry out the responsibilities of the post effectively (as outlined in the job description) and forms the basis for selecting a candidate.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Masters Degree in Health Economics or a related discipline (such as Health Services Research or Public Health) with a significant health economic evaluation component.
2. Knowledge of and experience in a range of health economic methods relevant to guideline development including economic modelling.
3. Knowledge of clinical research methods.
4. Good presentation skills.
5. A proven ability to write research/development reports to a high standard within tight deadlines.
6. Ability to work as part of small multidisciplinary groups, take initiative and work independently.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
1. Experience of mental health review work.
2. Knowledge of clinical trial methodology.
3. Knowledge of undertaking consultation exercises involving stakeholders in health and social care.
4. Experience in guideline development.
