Subject: Rattling noise from roof opening panel when partially or fully raised.
Summary
Should a customer express concern about a rattling noise from the roof opening panel when in a partially or fully raised position, the probable cause is the hardness of the material used for the guide shoes. This concern should be rectified by installing a new, revised guide shoes of a softer material.
Note:
Before carrying out this procedure, verify the concern with the customer to make sure that the rattling noise occurs after the roof opening panel is partially or fully raised and not when opening or closing the roof opening panel (TSB 024/2000 refers).

Removal
1. Open the roof opening panel approx. halfway (rearwards).
2. Detach the roof opening panel interior trim panel.
1 Carefully detach the trim panel front edge downwards
2 Detach three clips.
3 Slide the trim panel forwards approx. 25 mm.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the roof of the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned or covered by a protective cloth to prevent the trim panel being damaged or marked during removal.
3. Remove the roof opening panel interior trim panel.
Remove the trim panel by sliding it backwards through the roof opening.
4. Open the roof opening panel into the fully raised position.
5. Remove the four roof opening panel frame screws (two shown).
Remove the roof opening panel from the frame.
6. Remove the slider arms from the guide slots.
Pull slider arms gently outwards.
Note:
Retain washer for installation of new guide shoes.
7. Remove and discard guide shoes.
Detach guide shoes from guide pins on slider arms.
Installation
8. Attach new guide shoes (see Parts Required) to slider arms guide pins.
9. Apply grease (see Parts Required) to guide shoes.
10. Install slider arms into guide slots.
11. Install roof opening panel to frame.
Install four screws hand tight only.
12. Close the roof opening panel and adjust panel height.
Adjust panel height to 1 mm below edge of frame at front of panel and 1 mm above edge of frame at rear of panel.
13. Open the roof opening panel to fully raised position.
Tighten four screws to 3 Nm.
14. Install all other components in reverse order.
