Chairmanship
Simon had advised at the last meeting in September that the practice would be pleased to pass the Chair of the group to an existing member who was a patient. Mike Harris had indicated that he was willing to take on this role, the group approved the appointment of Mike as Chair.
Mike has a financial and regeneration background having been Financial Controller of Sainsbury Homebase and Chairman of the Sutton Regeneration Partnership that was responsible for the redevelopment of the Roundshaw estate in Sutton. In recent years Mike has been working as a consultant for a range of private and public sector organisations.
Terms of Reference
Mike has prepared draft terms of reference for the group based on the standard terms advised by the National Association of Patient Participation. The draft has been agreed by the partners of the Longcroft Clinic and was agreed by the members present. Comments were received from Janice McCullock, the Chair will discuss further prior to issuing the final terms of reference.
Longcroft Building Improvements
Simon advised that the proposed creation of further consulting rooms was not proceeding due to the high cost in relation to expected life due to the potential for a new surgery in the next five years. There are two potential options a Surrey County Council in the Horseshoe and a developer led project centred on Hengest Farm. Both projects were at an early stage and the group would be kept updated on progress.
The current work being undertaken will provide an improved reception and staff working areas, along with an additional nurse room primarily for blood tests.
Longcroft Operational Improvements
Simon advised that the touch screen for patients attending the clinic was on order and will be installed in January 2014. The online booking system will be available during the first quarter or 2014.
The practice has developed a unique logo to promote the practice and provide linkages across all forms of communication.
The hours of opening were being reviewed to ensure best use is being made of the facilities available and to meet patients needs.
The partners are considering opening a branch surgery should suitable premises be available to assist with providing additional consulting rooms in the short to medium term.
The group wished to thank the Longcroft staff that no longer park their car at the clinic thereby freeing space for patients.
BSBV Update/ EDICS Replacement
The BSBV initiative would appear to be stalled and will probable be permanently parked.
The Surrey Downs Referral Support Service has been established to replace EDICS and the initial feedback is positive, the Longcroft Clinic has just joined the service and partners are closely monitoring the position. An update on performance will be made at the next meeting.
Accident and Emergency
Discussions are ongoing at a high level on the future of A&E in the area, currently Epsom still has an A&E but not for trauma cases, St Helier still provides a full service, as does East Surrey. The group will be updated on the latest thinking when the practice are advised.
Medical Talk
Imran updated the meeting on the first medical talk to be promoted by the practice next Monday the16th December by Dr Hugh Gallagher on Blood Pressure at the United Reform Church in Banstead.
Medical Questionnaire 1st Quarter 2014
Simon updated the meeting on the questionnaire that would be available for completion from January. Although some 40 questions in length the responses were tick boxes and the group on balance thought it was acceptable. The questionnaire was to be available on line, hard copies available in reception and all practice staff when seeing patients would ask them to complete the questionnaire preferably on line.
Practice Accreditation
Imran made a short presentation on the proposed accreditation the practice wanted to undertake, this covered 78 defined ways of working to ensure patients were receiving the best available service. A more detailed presentation would be made at the next meeting.
