NOMINATION FOR THE SPIRIT OF LITERACY AWARDS

San Joaquin A+ will be hosting the FifteenthAnnual Spirit of Literacy Awards Gala at Wine and Roses in Lodi onThursday, November 13, 2014. The event will be hosted this year by Kaiser Permanente, The University of the Pacific and San Joaquin A+.

The Spirit of Literacy Awards were created to recognize individuals and organizations that contribute to the awareness and development of literacy activities in San JoaquinCounty. Now, in itsfifteenthyear, this highly successful event continues to honor the work that is done for literacy in our community.

Nominations of individuals and organizations are currently being accepted. Attached is The Spirit of Literacy Awards category list,descriptions for each award, and an application form. Please nominate the individuals or organizations you feel aredeservingof the award by completing a nomination form for each category. Nominations are due on or before October 15, 2014 by email to or by mail to the following address:

AWARD CATEGORIES

Outstanding Literacy Tutor

This award is given to an individual who has volunteeredhis/her own personal time to tutor. There are two awards:

Youth Tutor

 Adult Tutor

School District Literacy Leadership

Awarded to a School District or department of a district, that has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the development and promotion of a literacy program during the “13-14” school year.

Faith Organization in Literacy

Awarded to a Faith Organization involved in advocating family literacy or promoting and/or developing literacytutoring programs in the community.

School Administrator in Literacy

Will be awarded to a school administrator who is a literacy champion

Teacher in Literacy

Will be awarded to a dedicated teacher who volunteerstime outside the classroom, through tutoring, promoting, or conducting literacy activities within schools or the community

Corporate America Literacy Award

Will be awarded to a businessthat fosters literacy in San Joaquin County by promoting employee participation in literacy activities and/or making contributions of time and money to support literacy activities

Champion in Literacy

Awarded to an executive who supports and promotesliteracy program activities within the workplace and/or community

Outstanding Achievement Awards

Awarded to an individual who hasovercome extraordinary odds to become literate

Outstanding Literacy Program at the Preschool Level

Awarded to an outstanding Literacy Program

OutstandingLibrary Literacy Program

Awarded to an outstanding program promoting libraries and or literacy

Literacy Parent of the Year

Awarded to a parent who has contributed time and energy to promote literacy at school, in the community, or at home

Educator of the Year

Awarded to a teacher who does an outstanding job in implementing a fine literacy program in the classroom

New Educator of the Year

Awarded to a new classroom teacher, who has taught between one and three years, and is outstanding in implementing a great literacy program.

Non-Profit Organization in Literacy

Awarded to a non-profit organization that has promoted literacy effectively in the community through employee participation in literacy activities and/or by making contributions of time or money to create or support literacy activities.
