The Office of the Attorney General is seeking one highly motivated individual to fill a full-time (40 hours/ week) Paralegal position in the Child Protection Division. This position may require working in both our Augusta and Bangor offices. The individual will provide in-office support for heavy litigation caseloads of Child Protection Assistant Attorneys General.

Duties include:

  • Assist with formal responses to interrogatories and requests for production of documents.
  • Work on appeals to the Maine Law Court.
  • Review and respond to witness subpoenas served on DHHS caseworkers.
  • Draft responsive pleadings to motions for production of DHHS records in civil and criminal matters.
  • Provide litigation support to busy trial attorneys with legal research, motion drafting, proposed order drafting, and document review and preparation.
  • Assist with document review and issues regarding disclosure of confidential information.
  • Any other tasks as assigned.

The ideal candidate must be passionate about a career in child welfare, highly organized, efficient, accurate, and a great writer. The candidate should be adept at legal research. High ethical standards and strong interpersonal skills are imperative.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree, paralegal certification, and/or at least three (3) years of experience as a Paralegal.Minimum qualifications may be met by an acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training. Desired candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products.Preference given to candidates with Westlaw and Lexis experience.

  • Level 2: 95% State Contribution (employee pays 5%): $356.35 biweekly
  • Level 3: 90% State Contribution (employee pays 10%): $327.39 biweekly
