Dear Parent,
Your child has become a member of Carss Park Swimming Club, and this means that you are also a member.
Please note that no child is to be left unattended at the pool on Friday evenings. Swim Club is fun but requires parental assistance to conduct the events (we will teach you). Parents (or your adult representative) are required to help on a roster basis. This is a condition of registration. Parents will be asked to sign a form stating that they will assist, otherwise, their child's registration will not be accepted.
Thank you and we hope you enjoy the swim club season.

Events are programmed each week as per the timetable. However, this is a guide, only, and may be altered at the discretion of the Race Official when and where necessary.
ENTERING EVENTS
· No child may enter the pool for Club, unless accompanied by an adult (over 18 years). Children cannot be left unaccompanied at the pool during Club activities.

· A swimmer can enter a maximum of 3 swims per Club night.
MARSHALLING
The Marshall will call swimmers to the marshalling area prior to each event. It is the swimmer's responsibility to arrive at the marshalling area when events are called. Those members arriving after their events have been marshalled may be ineligible to compete. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the Marshall.
The Marshall will place the children in their races and they will be directed where to sit.
So as to allow a smooth procedure in the marshalling area, it is essential that swimmers wait patiently and quietly. Swimmers who disrupt the marshalling procedures may be asked to leave the area and we ask for your total support in this area.
Unless otherwise notified, all swims will be scratch events, with heats and lanes allocated according to previous best times.
STARTING
The Starter will call the Swimmers onto the blocks or into the water for backstroke races by whistle, and all races will be started by pistol, electronic hooter or whistle.
There will be disqualifications in any event for distances of 50m, after a one month grace period at the beginning of the summer season ie. beginning November each year.
We ask you to please read the following instructions on the starting and swimming of races and to become familiar with racing procedures.
1. At the sound of the Referee's whistle, competitors must step up to the back of the starting block (or in backstroke or medley relays, to enter the water, and a second long whistle to bring swimmers to the starting position).
2. At the command take your marks Competitors take up their starting positions and remain stationary.
3. When all Competitors are stationary, the Starter will give the starting signal by pistol, hooter or whistle.
4. The Club will function under the “Two Start Rule” for 15m and 25m races and the “One Start Rule” for all races 50m and greater. A disqualified swimmer may still swim in the race, their time and points will not be recorded but their swim will still enable them to qualify for Championship events.
5. All Swimmers must remain in the water in their lanes until the Referee signals them.

POINT SCORE SYSTEM
A point score system will operate during the season and all point score swims will be scratch starts and run in accordance with championship conditions.
No swimmer will be eligible for points until:
· Annual subscription for season is paid and
· Capitation to NSW Swimming Association Incorporated (hereafter referred to as NSWSA Inc.) has been paid.
In order to qualify for a point score trophy, swimmers must have attended Swim Club at least 60% of available nights during the season (October – March).
The Bob Turner Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the highest point scorer regardless of sex, with a further 10 trophies awarded to the next highest five (5) boys and next highest five (5) girls regardless of age.
Beginning times will be those achieved at the end of the previous swim club season for established members. For new members the first swim of the season is deemed to be a time trial and will establish the base times for the commencement of the point score.
Beginning trial distances will be those achieved at the end of the previous swim club season for established members and 15m/25m for all other swimmers.
Points are awarded in accordance with the point score chart (below). Points are based on times swum compared to the best time swum for that event. The more a swimmer improves, the more points can be earned.
POINT SCORE CHART
1 point / Swim or Time Trial.2 points / Up to and including 0.5 sec. Faster than the personal best time swum at Club, during the season.
3 points / Greater than 0.5 sec. or less than or equal to 1.5 sec. faster than the personal best time swum at Club, during the season.

RIBBON/SPRINT/RELAY NIGHTS
Every season the Club will hold five Ribbon sprint nights.
Ribbonswill be awarded to First, Second and Third place swimmers in each heat of a previously notified stroke.
Ribbons will be allocated according to placings as judged by the Race Officials. Ribbons will be presented at the end of the race.
Only members of the Club are eligible to receive ribbons.
Check the Club Programs of Events for Ribbon Nights and strokes in which they will be awarded.
Relays will be run as a novelty event. Check program for dates.
Swimmers are to make up their own relay teams. Every effort will be made to place a child in a relay even if the child is unable to get together a team.
Teams consist of four (4) swimmers of any age, sex or ability and each swimmer is required to swim 50m. Relays will be handicapped events and children who swim the 25m freestyle event may use flippers. Teams will be advised of their handicap after marshalling is completed.
There will be no points allocation for these events. They are strictly fun events and as such are not included in the maximum number of swims allowed each Club night.
PROMOTION TO LONGER DISTANCES
New members may compete in specific distances at the discretion of committee members.
Members are promoted to longer distances according to their ability to swim various distances within a specified time.
If a swimmer is eligible to swim the next distance but decides to stay at the same distance a maximum of only one point will be awarded for that swim.
When the qualifying times are achieved, swimmers will automatically be promoted to the next distance in that stroke up to 50m.
· 15m swimmers will not be promoted unless they achieve qualifying times using correct stroke and without any support (swimmer or bubble).
· Swimmers who have qualified to swim 100m distances have automatically qualified to swim the 200, 400, 800 and 1,500m events.
