- Has ultimate responsibility for all individuals employed in the Department.
- Reviews all probation meetings in conjunction with the Line Manager.
- Responsible for ensuring all appraisals are carried out.

- Responsible for carrying out regular probation review meetings and discussing these with Head of Department.
- Draws up an Academic Training Programme with the trainee, and a realistic/achievable timetable for delivery.
- Ensuring appropriate induction programme for the individual is in place
- Required to identify development needs relating to generic academic skills and specific academic goals for each individual as appropriate.
- Ensures that annual appraisal meetings are carried out with the individual to inform the ARCP process.
- Provides advice regarding grant application and career progression
Departmental Administrator /
- First point of contact for all HR related queries.
- Responsible for co-ordinating the induction programme with the Line Manager
- Ensures that regular probationary review meetings are held.
- Responsible for Departmental finance, research grants and buildings administration.
Mentor

- A mentor is an individual outside of the direct line management structure and can be external to the employing Department.
- Shares particular areas of expertise and knowledge that suits individual needs.
- Supports the individual so that they can identify strengths and potential and widen their support network.
- Supports the individual to identify professional development, and next career steps.
