At Home, At School, At Play; Let Safety Lead the Way!

Have you ever looked at the news and noticed all the missing children? Have you ever thought “Wow, how can I protect myself?” Well I’m here to tell you, you can! Stay safe at home, school, and play. Let safety lead the way!

First things first, staying safe at school, and even there you have to be aware. Imagine yourself playing on the playground at school, then a stranger walks up to you. What do you do? What you should do is run and alert a teacher at once, tell them what the stranger looks like, and help keep an eye out! Strangers can be very dangerous! You may imagine a stranger to look rough, but some strangers look very nice and talk to you nicely, but watch out!

Next, I will alert you that even at home when you are playing in your driveway you need to look out for strangers! If anyone you don’t know walks up to your house, make sure the doors are locked. If you are outside and you see someone stop in front of your house, go inside and lock your doors, tell your parents you saw a car stop in front of your house. If anyone ever asks you to help them with something without your parents’ permission, run, run, run. Strangers can be very tricky, like asking you to help them find a puppy or if you want candy. They may be someone you have even seen around but NEVER help anyone unless your parents have told you it is OK.

Also, if you are in a public place without your parents and someone seems to be following you or acting strange, try to find a policeman or security. If you can’t find them, look for a mother with children, she would be glad to help out. A store clerk is also a good person to ask for help if you are all alone. Know your parents’ phone numbers, home and cell phone.

And the last thing is NEVER give out information on the computer to someone you don’t know. Giving personal information is a dangerous thing, like telling someone where you live, your age or name. If someone asks for any personal information get off the computer and alert your parents. Parents should always make sure home computers are watched and never in our bedrooms.

These are strategies you should get into a habit of to keep yourself safe. Next time you see a missing children list remind yourself of the things you could be doing to protect yourself!
