Assistant Middle School Minister

St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, Oregon is best known as a “little-big church.” We have the look and feel of a bigger church (500-700), but we have a culture of smallness where people can be connected as a church family. St. Matthew has a variety of ministries, but we are a congregation who knows how to serve our community and understands that the children/youth and their families are the core of our church.

The Youth and Family Ministry is seeking a 20/hr week Assistant Youth Minister to join the ministry team to help lead the tweens and middle schoolers. After reading below and looking at our church website and our youth one at please send your resume to by June 30.

Primary Ministry Focuses

1.Love the Middle Schoolers and the their families

2.Work with Youth and Family Ministers in the overall ministry focuses of St. Matthew

3.Assist in recruiting and leading the Middle School Adult Volunteers

4.Assist in developing and teaching the Middle Schoolers

5.Planning, coordinating and leading Sunday Night Live

6.Create events to nurture their faith and connect to other youth and adults

7.Create events to give students opportunities to serve in our community and on mission trips

8.Participate in weekly staff meetings

9.Participate in the community and worship at St. Matthew

Optional Ministry Focuses

1.Youth Worship

2.Website development

3.Occasional high School Sunday School and events

4.Yearly mission trips and camps with high school students

Qualifications

1.Bachelors degree in a communication/youth ministry focused degree preferred

2.Successful completion of a background check

3.Previous Middle School/Youth Experience

4.Understanding of adolescent development

5.Willingness to be open to mentorship with the lead Youth Ministers

6.An understanding and appreciation of Lutheran theology
