Introducing: Themodel railway layouts atFaszination Modellbau Friedrichshafen 2017

GaugeIIm (G): Segment layout "Hammerundermeadowvalley"

Garten railways are known as the giants among miniatures. Locos and carriages that children can handle without Dad having a nervous breakdown. And because of their size, intricate details are actually perceivable to the naked eye. The gaugeIIm display layout presented by the LGB-FreundeNiederrhein clubconsists of 12 segments, with a total area of 15.5 x 5.5 metres, and offers everything you could wish to find on a model railway.

Up to 15 trains can be operated at the same time. There is so much to discover in the detailed scenery, and at a track height of only 70 cm off the floor even small children have a good view of the miniature landscape. A coal-mine with a 140 cm high shaft tower and wind turbines, true-to-detail industrial complexes and town houses are among the features on the layout.

Controls are digital and wireless using the Massoth system. Around 150 metres of track with some 40 sets of points on two levels guarantee a constant stream of railway activity.

Rolling stock on the layout includes motivesfrom Saxony and the Lower Rhine region. And because American narrow gauge vehicles can also be seen at times, the Saxon station Hammerunterwiesenthalgave its name to the title of the layout: "Hammerundermeadowvalley".

Gauge IIm (G): Passion IIm

Passion IIm is a module layout depicting an imaginary metric route and imaginary railway companies. The rolling stock consists mainly of LGB models that have been re-painted and realistically weathered. The module concept enables innumerable possibilities to suit the available room space, creating a unique layout every time. The stations on the layout are terminals, so there is no endless circle, but the single track is connected to a hidden track loop which acts as a fiddle yard. The trains are controlled via a functional signal system. The focus is on the many shunting manoeuvres which fascinate the audience. Steam engines also manage to turn by means of turntables at the terminal stations. The rolling stock is fitted with Kadee couplers. Another smaller station is available so that spectators can discover how remote-controlled uncoupling is accomplished with the use of magnets.

GaugeI:Model Railway Team Gauge 1 Hannover

The basic form of this layout is a triangle with an additional turning loop extension. There are approx. 150 metres of track, a turntable, a diamond crossing and 25 sets of points. The minimum radius is 1650 mm, with the entrance into the curves greater than 2000 mm. The layout depicts a through station on a double track route in northern Germany. Trains operated on the layout drive not only in a circle but can also shunt between the station and the depot, and the additional loop enables trips around the layout starting and finishing at the depot. The landscape is mainly rural and the teamconstantly comes up with ideas for new features. Picturesque details such as a stream with a small lake liven up the overall impression without overloading the layout. Inside the turning loop there is a model of a small farm. The railway is operated digitally with Motorola and DCC Protocol. The rolling stock by manufacturers such as Märklin, Hübner, Kiss, Benecken and KM1 is privately owned by club members.

Gauge H0:Railway depot Belgard

This H0 model of the railway depot in Belgard is presented as a large model railway layout in the historic railway era II, exuding genuine Reichsbahn atmosphere around the year 1930. The original depot lay in what was then Eastern Pomerania on the line between former Stettin and Gdingen not far from Danzig. The choice of subject is unusual considering that its constructor MaciejLukaszewicz comes from Poznan in Poland. But with his excellent and detailed knowledge of technical German history, the Belgard depot layout is a very fine example of model making handicraft, including not only historic locomotives and rolling stock but also perfectly modelled engine sheds and service buildings with true-to-detail interiors and fully functioning coal and water cranes.

Gauge H0: Module display layout with push-buttons for spectators

This module display layout with standardised interfaces consists of 20 modules and has a total track length of 70 metres. The trains run on 'aged' and gravelled Märklin H0-K tracks. It entails a double-track mainline with a 5-track through station, an 8-track suburban station and a large steam engine depot. The special feature on this layout are the push buttons for spectators who can trigger the various actions, for example a haunted house with appearing and disappearing ghost, a traffic accident with police and fire brigade, shunting action at the goods shed and loading yard.

Gauge H0: American railroad with up to 6 locos and over 60 wagons

The layout is based on modern times from 1990 up to today. It depicts an American/Canadian railway landscape, with a small town and industrial zones. Long trains with up to 6 locomotives and over 60 wagons are the great attraction on this layout.

Gauge H0: Module layout of the Swiss Rhaetian Railway

This layout consists of 5 modules in frame construction. The club began building the layout in 1998, and it now has a total length of 44 metres. The route includes 9signal boxes. The through station in the front part of the layout has 5 through tracks and 3 sidings as well as a dead-end track acting as a platform. The layout can be analogue controlled with 12 volt DC. The 4 drivers' camps are self-made constructions and are powered by a 90 VA transformer. Since 2015 the layout is also controlled digitally. The complete surface has been modelled using the fly screen and plaster method. The catenary was also constructed by the club using a Sommerfeld kit.

Gauge H0: Winter in Stammersdorf

The layout depicts the railway eras III – V. Frost is on the ground and a bit of snow has fallen out of the high fog, covering the area around Stammersdorf station with a layer of white, creating a picturesque landscape. Trains leave winteryStammersdorf from the main haltObersdorfand travel via Auersthal station where springtime is evident, and on towards RaggendorfMarkt, where summer has already arrived. The journey ends in an autumnal scene at Zistendorf station.

Gauge H0: Replica of a single-track ÖBB main line based on Austrian prototypes

VOEMEC (the Association of Austrian Model Railway Clubs) presents a single-track ÖBB (Austrian Railways) main line based on modern-day Austrian motives.

The layout consists of the large Bad-Voemec station with passenger trains and goods and freight trains and a seven-track stunting yard.

Various straight and curved modules as well as 2 loop tunnels complete the layout. The modules depict various rural Austrian scenes.

Gauge TT: The Baden-Württemberg TT modellers let off steam

At the centre of the TT layout with some 20 modules is a large station where even today in times of modern electric tractions and diesel locomotives, plenty of smoke and steam still fill the air. The route leads past the railway depot, then over a bridge and through a tunnel, on past a mill and continues to the newly built village station and a quarry. After rounding a turning loop the journey continues past a factory branch line and round a wide curve with a branch station and on to the other turning module over which a castle ruin towers.

Size of layout: 10 x 4.5 metres

Gauge N: Auhagen goods railway

On this N-gauge railway the focus is on long passenger and goods trains enabling the presentation of realistic railway operation. The platforms alone measure 1.5 metres so that passenger trains with up to 10 four-axle carriages can stop there. Goods trains always pass straight through the station or on a through track with no platform. Just as in real life, all 10 signals at the station are on red, but when a train arrives with a set disembarkation time for travellers, the appropriate signals go green for 5-8 seconds. The layout was modelled without depicting a specific era, so that more modern rolling stock can be introduced. Blinking lights and flashing blue lights as well as other action scenes are of course incorporated into the layout.
