Clinical sessions: Possible Ward and Community sessions across CPFT Localities including Cambridge, Peterborough and Huntingdon.
Title of Role: / Volunteer Arts Therapies Assistant and Administrative Support
Purpose of Role: / To observe and assist the Recovery Focused Arts Therapist including possibilities of assisting Art, Music and/or Drama Therapists -working with service users in group sessions and to support the department with focussed administrative tasks
Tasks: / Group Work:
  • To participate in the creative process and by doing so be a role model demonstrating how active creative involvement truly enhances well being.
  • To promote good and safe practice for oneself and other staff.
  • To foster hope, aspiration, and recovery through their involvement in the Art Therapy group.
  • To help with the preparing and clearing away of materials for group sessions
  • To assist in creative sessions, this might involve sitting with patients and helping them with the work they are creating or generally chatting and creating a warm and supportive environment.
Administrative Work:
  • To assist the Arts Therapies Manager with admin tasks for the Arts Therapies Service including minutes, letters, filing, room booking and other relevant tasks for the Arts Therapies Service.
  • To potentially assist the team with preparing admin tasks for key projects or schemes as and when they appear. For example this might include making posters and sending emails.
  • To assist the team in the upkeep of data base to contribute to the Arts Therapies Service evidence base.

(Please note it is a requirement that all volunteers in the Arts Therapy department undertake administrative tasks as well as being involved in Arts

Therapies clinical group sessions and/or other Arts Projects )

Volunteer Requirements:

Personal Qualities and Requirements of volunteer: /
  • An enthusiasm for the Arts and an ability to use this passion to support the Department in it’s commitment to excellent care.
  • The volunteer should be aware that whilst a volunteer can contribute greatly creatively and therapeutically it is not possible for a volunteer to maintain their own caseload of therapy work or conduct therapy themselves with service users.
  • To be non-judgemental and approachable
  • To be supportive, positive and considerate
  • Ability to use a PC and basic components such as Microsoft word and email (for those who are not confident using a computer there are alternative administrative tasks)

what is the minimum commitment required: / This is dependant on the role and your availability but we do ask for ideally a minimum of 6 months commitment to volunteering with the Trust. Due to the nature of the role volunteers will need to be consistently available whether this be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Hours:To be discussed with the Arts Therapy team lead. Please be aware that for every group session (3 hours) you must commit to 2 hours of administrative tasks, this can be done at an alternative time.
