PTO MEETING AGENDA

Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 6:30pm

  1. Call to Order
  2. Principal’s Report – Mr. Sterner, bullying pamphlet sent home today and the program is running currently but as a district we reintroduced it to the students. Assembly for parents is Thursday evening January 13th and childcare is provided. All elementary schools are having the program for bully busting. Teachers and staff have all been trained to handle situations.
  3. Treasurer’s Report – Lisa Wolfe. Expenses were paid out to teachers, room parents and holiday workshop. Box Top deposits was for $1,300.
  4. Teacher’s Report – Brianna Wallach mentioned that Mrs. Hibshman the librarian will be doing love your library again this year.

  2. Yearbook – Tara Oltmans signed a contract, she spoke with Mrs. Havercamp and Mrs. Painter and the school is having a contest for the cover. 5th graders will design and compete for the front cover and 4th graders will design and compete for the back cover. Theme for yearbook is possibly “Rheems Pride or Rheems Proud”. March 1st is the deadline for pictures. Still looking for pictures from all holiday parties, please forward to the yearbook committee. Question was raised as to how the pictures will copy and what the quality will be. How colorful will the cover be? Someone from the committee will follow up at next PTO meeting.
  3. Box Tops for Education – Newending date is February 11th.
  4. Community Service – Holiday families went well. Jump Rope for Heart is in the spring.
  5. Holiday Workshop – Barb Geiner, dates were changed due to conflict. We still had a good outcome, Thursday was $1,495 and Friday was $800. A profit of $300 was gained and every year we are hoping to always break even so any gain is a plus. We ended up with about 6 boxes left. Haven’t heard from anyone yet who may be interested in taking over this committee next year for K-3. We do not know if this will continue for the upper grades at Bearcreek.
  6. Family Fun Activities – Possible event with Sal’s Pizza place that just opened near Rheems school. Contacting them to see if they would be interested in hosting a fund raiser day.
  7. Staff Appreciation – Breakfast was provided for all staff of Rheems on Thursday, December 16th. Poinsettias were given to each individual and also the bus drivers.
  8. Assemblies – Bruce Van Patter assembly is January 31st. March 14th jump rope for heart assembly will kick of the week. Last assembly for the year is May 2nd Brian Curry for math techniques, with information there was a book provided for magic tricks and cost is $10. Brian gives $3 back to the school for each book sold. Is this something we are interested in, decision made was to send it out and let parents choose.

m.Movie Night – January 28th 6:30-8:30, Movie picked is How to Train your Dragon. Dance night is Saturday April 30th for grades 3, 4, and 5 from 6:30-8:30. Parents must attend with child, cannot drop off and leave. Question was raised for a theme suggestion and also mentioned for grades to pick songs.

p. 5th grade Ski Trip – 5th grade ski trip is February 17th. Introductory sheets will be going home the end of this week. Chaperones needed and must have clearance. Any parent interested can sign up a 5th grader for the year to ski with passes, more info go to

  2. New Business – Mr. Sterner mentioned a Rheems familyhad their house burn last night and all was lost inside. They are all safe but could not salvage anything. The faculty did give a monetary donation for needs right now. They are staying with neighbors but will be transferring to Holiday Express until housing is found. The rebuild will take about 7-9 months. Asking the PTO to look into helping with additional needs. The student is a 5th grader here, all 5th graders pulled together and made cards and asking for collections by classrooms for items for the children. Books, games, toiletries. We will continue to check in with the family for any further needs they may have in the future as they move forward from this difficult time.
