Triad Chapter ISM-CV November 2010 Newsletter

Fellow Supply Chain Professionals

We thank the twenty-one (21) ISM-CV members attending the October tour of Precor Manufacturing and Distribution facility. Plant Manager Brian Hatfield conducted the tour of their manufacturing floor with support from Senior Buyer Heather Mullen who shared information regarding their purchasing process and procedures. It was an impressive 236,000 square foot facility including a showcase of their state of the art cardio equipment.

The year 2010 leaves us with just one more meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 16 at the Royal House in Kernersville. Please plan to join your fellow ISM-CV members as we hear from Ms. Sallie Simpson, Director of Materials Management since 2006 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC). The hospital is one of four recognized as a top performer in the University Health System Consortium 2010 Supply Chain Performance Excellence Collaborative Study. Ms. Simpson has been employed with WFUBMC for forty years progressing from an Intensive Care Staff Nurse to Head Nurse and Clinical Nurse Manager in the critical care unit. In 1995 she transitioned to Materials Management to serve as the clinical liaison between Materials Management and the clinical departments to lead non-salary expense reduction activities. Ms. Simpson will present on Supply Chain Services as applies to the health care environment. Topics of discussion will include Storeroom and Distribution, Shipping and Receiving, Central Sterile Analysis, Value Analysis and Material Disposition. We’ll also learn how physicians are actively engaged in product evaluation and selection to ensure maximization of quality, cost management, and regulatory compliance. While the health care industry is not one the ISM-CV has previously discussed, it will provide a great opportunity for supply chain professionals to note the similarities in our respective fields of employ as well as to potentially apply learnings from points of differentiation.

As highlighted in the September newsletter, the ISM-CV chapter selected Joseph’s House as the recipient of our charitable donations for the 2010-2011 year. Joseph’s House provides support and housing to homeless high school students in GuilfordCounty who do not have family support. With the winter holidays soon upon us, we asked Reverend McLean if she had any special needs to help Joseph’s House through the holiday season. They would greatly appreciate donations of paper products which can be brought to the November meeting. Your voluntary donation is sincerely appreciated.

Planning ahead, the next event is scheduled for January18, 2011 at the Royal House in Kernersville. Our guest speaker will be from Siemens Building Technologies with a presentation on Managing Resource Consumption.

We look forward to seeing you at the November 16th meeting.
