b) Overall Purpose of Job
To manage effectively all aspects of the day to day running of the shop, staff and volunteers with the aim of achieving optimum profit, by maximising sales and controlling direct shop expenses.
c) Principal Responsibilities
1. To ensure the shop sales performance is maximized, actively seeking ways to improve the shop’s performance on a continuous basis
2. To manage all aspects of stock collection and preparation, ensuring stock processing levels are sufficient to achieve required shop floor density, encouraging stock donations at all times. Adhere to the established sorting, pricing and merchandising policies and standards to enforce a strict stock rotation
3. Ensure the necessary waste and rag collections and liaise with other local RSPCA shops to ensure donations processed and the shop remains clear of clutter
4. Conduct a monthly stock check of bought in goods (such as RSPCA logo items) and producing a stock valuation for auditing purposes
5. To demonstrate excellent customer service, always promoting good practice within the shop and providing guidance, feedback and coaching the shop team as required, dealing with complaints both effectively and efficiently.
6. To meet the required performance standards and targets, motivating, managing and supporting shop staff and volunteers in the achievement of Key Performance Indicator targets.
7. To be responsible for cash handling, banking and associated administration, ensuring that all till operations are carried out in accordance with RSPCA policies and procedures
8. To comply with RSPCA policies, particularly in relation to shop security and health & safety regulations and the completion of general administration tasks to required deadlines. To inform the Branch Manager of any areas of non-compliance.
9. To carry out the duties allocated in accordance with RSPCA Rules for Branches and guided by the policy decisions of the Branch Trustees.
10. In conjunction with the Branch Manager, to ensure compliance with Charity law, Trading regulations, Trading Standards, Inland Revenue, VAT, Retail Law, Society Policy and best practice.
11. Recruit, train and manage volunteers to ensure the efficient running of the shop, and to encourage team building and an active involvement in shop duties. To utilise volunteers appropriately within the shop.
12. Responsible for the assessment, appraisal and management of a Deputy Manager, identifying training needs and performance issues. Lead effective and engaging team meetings.
13. To maintain excellent visual merchandising standards within the shop and mmaintain attractive and themed window displays.
14. To present a positive and professional image to customers, staff and volunteers at all times, being an ambassador for the RSPCA.
15. To produce and communicate 4 weekly rotas for shop teams ensuring adequate coverage of staff availability on peak trading days, weekends and seasonal periods.
16. Attend and undertake any relevant training, events or meetings as required, playing an active role in such events
17. Be responsible for security, opening and closing the shop and keep a strict list of key holders.
18. Ensure that a high level of housekeeping is followed by yourself, staff and volunteers both on the shop floor and in the back office, creating an environment that is pleasant and safe for customers, shop staff and volunteers
19. To educate the public and promote the good name of the Branch and Society in general through the effective use of campaign material in the shop. In liaison with the Branch Trustees facilitate good media coverage about matters regarding the shop.
20. Any other appropriate duties, which are within the capabilities of the Branch Shop Manager or for which training has been given.
