Forthe San Luis Valley clinic, you will have brief consultations with low-income clients on various civil legal topics. You will provide clients with legal advice, information and/or referrals based on their case. You will be provided with a handbook by legal topic, including brief outlines of the large topics and local and state resources. If you are uncomfortable giving advice in an unfamiliar legal topic, you can provide only legal information and additional resources. Are you comfortable doing this? ☐ Yes ☐ No
For the Cortez Clinic, when there is an appointment, you will be provided with the party’s name beforehand to check for conflicts, and if post-decree, with the client’s relevant legal documents. You will then provide them with legal advice using videoconferencing and possibly help them draft legal documents. We will provide you with tutorial videos and handouts on using this technology.
