Sustainable Choice – All Staff Email

Dear Staff,

I am writing to inform you that (insert council name) Council has recently become a member of Sustainable Choice. A council resolution was passed on (insert date of council resolution) to recognise (insert council name) Council’s commitment to the Sustainable Choice program.

Sustainable Choice is a procurement program that aims to increase sustainable purchasing decisions and sustainable procurement in local government throughout NSW. The program has been in operation since 2006 providing support to member councils in sustainable purchasing, products and services. The majority of councils in NSW are members of the program and enjoy the many benefits.

What is Sustainable Procurement?

Sustainable procurement involves the purchase of a good or service that minimises the impact on the environment. Every product and service has an environmental impact in some way or another so the challenge is to find those that have a reduced impact when compared to similar products on the market. Sustainable procurement is buying local, ensuring the manufacture and mileage of products or services are kept to a minimum considering energy and water impacts and pollution factors. Sustainable procurement is protecting the environment, strengthening our local economy and supporting our community.

Sustainable Choice makes the search easier for you by providing an expansive online database of sustainable products and services, from energy-efficient lighting to recycled water treatment pipes, road base or catering events supplies. Sustainable indicators have been incorporated into the database to help you identify why a product is considered to be more sustainable than another in order for you to choose the most appropriate for your needs and budget. The program assists Councils in making efficient, informed and sensible purchasing choices.
