Dear Sir/Madam

LOCAL GOVERNMENT PAY 2010/11

Last week the Employers received a request from the trade unions that, in the light of the April inflation figures, they review their decision not to make a pay offer for 2010/11.

The Employers have considered that request and have today written to the Trade Union Side Secretaries informing them that their position remains the same.

A copy of the letter is attached.

Yours faithfully

Dear Heather, Brian and Peter

LOCAL GOVERNMENT PAY 2010/11

Last week Brian made a formal request that, in the light of the April inflation figures, the Employers review their decision not to make a pay offer for 2010/11.

The Employers have now considered that request and I am writing to inform you of their conclusion.

The decision in January not to offer any increase for 2010/11 was made by the Employers following consultation with councils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. As you know from our letter of 20 January, the clear and consistent message from the vast majority of councils was that any increase would not be affordable. That message has not changed in the meantime. The financial position in local government remains a difficult one and the increase in inflation announced last week has added further to council costs.

The Employers have therefore concluded that their position remains that any increase in pay for 2010/11 would not be affordable.

Yours sincerely
